Bellwether Farm Intergenerational Book Club
Bellwether Farm is launching an Intergenerational Book Club to bring all ages together over great literature. First, we'll read All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot, a delightful classic about a first-time veterinarian in rural Yorkshire. These stories are excellent to read on your own, with your family, or listen to on audiobook. We will have a book club discussion on August 12 at 6:00 p.m. which will include a conversation with the veterinarian who treats our Bellwether animals! Deadline for Amendments to the Constitution and Canons
Proposed amendments to the Diocese of Ohio Constitution & Canons are to be submitted using the form provided, and must be received by August 14 to be considered at the 2020 Convention. If you or your Diocesan committee is considering submitting a proposed amendment, the Committee on Constitution and Canons would be happy to work with you collaboratively in this effort. Questions or requests for assistance should be directed to Bill Powel at or 216.774.0449.
U-Pick Day at Bellwether Farm
Come visit Bellwether Farm on August 15 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to participate in this year's second "U-Pick" day. The current harvest includes: Swiss chard, kale, collard greens, tomatoes, garlic, carrots, squash, beets, sweet corn, onions, beans, and basil. Some vegetables are more limited than others. We will only be offering 12 time slots to ensure the safety of both the attendees and Bellwether staff. Each slot will be limited to 45 minutes and each new family will arrive every half hour to ensure we can socially distance families for the duration of their visit. We ask that participants consider making a donation in exchange for the produce and bring their own reusable bags. We will also have Bellwether pork, chicken, eggs, and 2020 Maple Syrup available for purchase, as well as Bellwether merchandise. Please note: We do not have the inventory available for bulk purchase on tomatoes or other produce for canning and freezing purposes.
Bellwether Cook-Alongs
The Bellwether Cook-Along program will give participants of all ages the opportunity to engage with Bellwether's farm-fresh produce and learn about the hands-on process of making fresh tomato sauce, as well as freezing it. Please select a pick-up location for your Bellwether bag. Pick-up at Bellwether Farm is on August 15 from 12:00-3:00 p.m. Pick-up at Trinity Cathedral is on August 21 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Registration is open for the Bellwether Farm and Trinity Cathedral pick-ups. In order to ensure this program is accessible, the fee for each bag of produce is $25, which covers the cost of the organic Bellwether vegetables and an insulated reusable bag. Additional donations by those who are able to provide them will be gratefully received and will support future Cook-Along programs in the months to come. The bag will include all the farm-fresh ingredients you will need to participate in the Cook-Along, as well as a recipe card. Once you've picked up your bag, you will be given a link to a Cook-Along video with Chef Lonny Gatlin and Amy Melena demonstrating how to make Bellwether's homemade tomato sauce. Anti-Racism Training
Anti-Racism training is required for all individuals in elected and appointed Diocesan positions, and it is also open to all members of the Diocese. 

The Commission for Racial Understanding will offer this two-day training on the following dates:
  • August 28 and 29 - Zoom video conference (Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. both days)
  • September 10 and 11 - Zoom video conference (Thursday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. both days)
  • October 10 and 11 - Zoom video conference (Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. both days)
  • November 6 and 7 - Bellwether Farm (Friday and Saturday) from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on the first day and 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on the second day. Food is covered by the Diocese of Ohio.
The cost of the training materials is covered by the Diocese of Ohio, but lodging is the responsibility of the participant (or their parish).  You must commit to attending the full sessions and to doing the off-line work. Lodging options for Bellwether Farm are shown on the registration form.

Diocesan Youth Days
Youth in grades 6-12 are invited to gather for  Diocesan Youth Days - three separate days in three separate locations. The days will be held on August 29, September 12, and September 26. Each one will be a little different, but each will give us a chance to unplug, relax, and enter a rhythm of prayer. Let's remind each other that with God, we can survive, thrive and vibe - even in the wilderness. All Safeguarding and social distancing protocols will be strictly enforced, following Diocesan standards. Masks covering nose and mouth are required at all times (except when actively eating). We will not be singing. All activities will be outside, and we will only enter buildings for restrooms. Health checks will be conducted day-of, and we will practice contact tracing. Each event will be capped at 15 youth. You may register for more than one. Each day will run roughly from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., but more details will come after you register. More info and registration can be found at Any questions can be directed to the Rev. Convention Nominations
Nominations must be submitted by September 15 for inclusion in the Convention Handbook. The positions that will be filled at Convention include: Diocesan TrusteeDiocesan CouncilStanding Committee, Regional Disciplinary Board (and Diocesan Disciplinary Board)ECS Development Council, Province V Synod Delegate, and Alternate Deputy to General Convention . Young Adult Grants
The Young Adult Ministry Grant, funded by the United Thank Offering (UTO) and distributed by the Diocesan Young Adult Task Force, is a new grant to encourage parishes, mission areas, etc. to experiment and take bold action to attract and engage young adults (19-30). Applications will be reviewed monthly, and funds must be used by May 2021. Members of the task force are available to brainstorm with you, and have included some ideas in the grant application.

Back to School Event
St. Luke's, Cleveland is holding a Back to School Event on
August 20. Due to the pandemic this year, congregations this year and members from the community are invited to either: 
  • Send or drop off collected items to St. Luke's only if items have already been purchased 
  • Order items and have them sent directly to St. Luke's
  • Support the ordering of these items financially by making checks payable to St. Luke's. 
If you would like to purchase any items, please reach out to , Kelcie Dugger, Youth Outreach Specialist, at, before doing so. All items purchased online must be shipped to St. Luke's to lessen the amount of people in contact with the items.
St. Luke's is also seeking volunteers to pack the bags during the of
August 17. Tables will be spread out in the gym and dining area to practice social distancing. All volunteers for this project will be required to wear a face mask and gloves. Email Kelcie Dugger to join the Back to School Team.
Downtown Movie Night
In partnership with the local NAACP, St. Paul's, Fremont will host a downtown movie night featuring Harriet on August 21 in the Brady Lot. The night will also include speakers that will discuss racial reconciliations, the importance of voting, and the inspiration they gain from Harriet Tubman. Seating will open at 7:30 p.m., speakers will begin at 8:00 p.m., and the movie will begin at dark. The lot will be divided into 9x9 squares for households to share, with each square six feet away from the next. Donations will be accepted and the proceeds will benefit the NAACP. A car hop service with food and refreshments will be for sale from local downtown businesses. For more information, please call 419.388.5806..
