In this Year of Renewal, we are called to remember with courage, compassion, and faith. Twenty-five years after September 11, 2001, we gather to honor the lives lost, the communities forever changed, and the clergy and congregations who offered prayer, presence, and care in the days that followed.
This week, St. Paul’s Chapel, St. Thomas Church, and the Cathedral are featured in the BBC’s coverage of the twenty-fifth anniversary of 9/11. You can listen to their Daily Services here. Bishop Matthew Heyd also delivered a sermon for the BBC4 Sunday Service honoring September 11th this week - you can read a transcript here.
Congregations across the Diocese are holding services of remembrance this week. You can find event listings below and also on our social media accounts. Throughout the week, we're also sharing reflections from faith leaders and community members as we mark 25 years since September 11, 2001. We welcome you to follow along on our Instagram page and share your own reflections as well.
Through prayer, ritual, and reflection, we make space for grief while honoring the compassion and solidarity that emerged from tragedy. We remember. We mourn. And in faith and hope, we move forward together.

The service will bring together FDNY personnel, other first responders, survivors, family members of those who lost their lives, civic leaders, and representatives of many faith communities to mark this significant anniversary with remembrance, prayer, and music.
Saint Thomas Church is also home to the memorial honoring the British and Commonwealth victims of September 11, and this important part of our shared history will be recognized during the liturgy.
The service will be sung by the Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys.

Light at Ground Zero: Exhibition Opening Reception

In honor of the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, this exhibition is an opportunity to remember and reflect with photographer Krystyna Sanderson.
St. Paul’s Chapel stands less than 100 yards from the World Trade Center site. This photography exhibit tells of the relief work carried on at St. Paul’s for almost nine months. While it was a miracle that the historic chapel still stood after the attacks, the real miracle was of radical hospitality joined with goodwill from around the world in response to the catastrophe of 9/11.

In observation of the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, join us at the Cathedral for a day of remembrance and a screening of 9/11: Reclaiming Ground Zero, a documentary that explores the public decision-making process behind the redevelopment of the World Trade Center site.
At a time when people are losing faith in democracy, this story is more than an inspiration; it’s an example of what is possible. And it’s a lesson that good democratic outcomes require good democratic processes.
Introducing the documentary will be Dr. Carolyn J. Lukensmeyer, the founder of AmericaSpeaks, who was crucial in bringing together 5,000 New Yorkers to discuss the rebuilding of Ground Zero.

All proceeds will benefit the Agape Fund - a new initiative at Incarnation that supports the church’s welfare ministries, including Moravian Open Door, Hour Children, the Osborne Association, and Operation Santa, among others.

EDNY Safe Church Events are opportunities for anyone who needs to complete the required online Praesidium modules. Facilitators will be present to help with technological issues or other questions about the program. You will also be invited to discuss the implementation of what you learn so it’s perfect for groups from the same congregation to attend together.
What do you need?
Bring your laptop and headphones. If you don’t have equipment, you can request to use EDNY equipment when you register.
All Events are 9:00-3:00. The facility will open by 8:45. Lunch will be provided. There is no fee.
Registration is required and space is limited. Registration closes the Wednesday prior to the event. Walk-ins will not be accommodated.

In July, ICE arrested 175 children in New York City. Fourteen hundred children across New York are facing removal proceedings right now; more than 250 of them are in detention tonight.

- $250 covers the filing fee the federal government now charges a child to petition for protection.

Workshop Purpose: To provide awareness of how the sin of racism impacts
ALL our lives, and how we unconsciously and consciously participate in racist
systems. The concept of race and its legacy is examined from scientific and
historical evidence. Dialogue is the foundation which includes group exercises.
The viewing of videos and online exercises is pre-work assigned to participants.
Church location is accessible by public transportation.
The workshop meets the diocesan requirement for antiracism training which is expected to be fulfilled by all clergy and lay leaders elected or appointed to a diocesan position. The Episcopal Diocese of New York invites lay and clergy leaders to participate in the College for Congregational Development (CCD) 5x1 Program, a five-month leadership formation experience designed to equip leaders to develop congregations of all sizes, locations, and conditions into more healthy, faithful, and effective communities that discern and participate more fully in God's mission. Participants gather one Saturday each month to explore practical tools for leadership, mission, organizational development, systems thinking, and healthy congregational change while applying what they learn in their own ministry settings.
The CCD curriculum follows a two-year cycle (Year A and Year B), and participants may begin with either year. There is no requirement to start with Year A.
2026–2027 Year B Sessions: December 19, 2026, January 16, 2027, February 20, 2027, March 20, 2027, April 17, 2027, Snow date: May 15, 2027

Join us for a pilgrimage to Cuernavaca, Mexico! An opportunity to learn, serve, explore, and experience the life and culture of Mexico in a way that goes far beyond ordinary travel.At the heart of our pilgrimage is the Spanish Institute of the Anglican Church of Mexico, where participants will study Spanish with experienced professors who specialize in teaching English speakers. Whether you are a beginner or already have some knowledge of Spanish, the program offers an
opportunity to grow in your language skills while putting them into practice in everyday life.
But this pilgrimage is about much more than learning Spanish. Together, we will experience Mexican culture and hospitality, explore the local community, and participate in acts of service that invite us to encounter our neighbors and deepen our understanding of life and faith in another part of the Anglican Communion. It's a wonderful trip and for many, a life-changing experience.

- Return: Mexico City International Airport — February 6, 2027
- Cost: $3,300 per person
- Cost includes airfare, tuition, room, and board. Participants are responsible for tips, three restaurant meals, and personal shopping.

- Deposits are refundable for cancellations made by November 15, 2026. After that date, deposits are non-refundable.
