This year makes the eleventh for the Photosynthesis Art Show. Again, 24 photographers from Salt Spring Island will exhibit work at ArtSpring. This year's artists reflect a slowly changing face of Photosynthesis. Some members have been with the show since it's inception, while some newer names and faces have appeared on the roster. As well, there will be 2 invited guests and a student photographer included in the show.

 

 

Val Konig Saying it Our Way: Exhibition by Val Konig & Students

September 23 & 24  10:00am to 5:00pm daily
"Saying It Our Way" is the theme of the tenth Art Show featuring paintings by Val Konig and her students. Both beginning and advanced students will exhibit works in watercolours, acrylics and oils. Hear from Mamello Lehlotha, an indomitable African woman who is leading her community of orphans and disabled children from emergency to emergence. SS Forum: Andrew Nikiforuk on The Empire of the Beetle

Since gaining national acclaim for "Tar Sands", his stunning expos� of the environmental and social impacts of the oil sands industry, Andrew Nikiforuk has spent years tracing the amazing and terrifying confluence of events that led to an explosion of the Pine Beetle population in North America's forests. The award-winning author and journalist will lead a public discussion in his trademark tell-it-like-it-is, no-nonsense style. Combined with a presentation of images that must be seen to be believed, participants are in for a memorable and stimulating evening.

Toronto trombonist Darren Sigesmund received the 2010 Galaxie Rising Star award for Best Composition at the 2010 Festival International de Jazz de Montreal.

 

The same year, his new Strands II cd was nominated for a juno for Best Traditional Jazz Album. Darren's compositions are a contemporary blend of jazz, Latin and classical influences.

The Geezers are contemplating running for Island Trust urged on by Swami and Maggie who are ready to manage their campaign.  Bold and innovative changes are in store for Salt Spring, B.C. Ferries and our community plan if they 

are elected.  Be there to laugh and to support them in their bid to reduce animosity and restore unity to our Island.   All declared candidates for the Trust will be offered a complimentary ticket to attend and participate in the question and answer portion of the show.
