Learn how a single battle reshaped the course of European history at “A Catastrophe Lasting 500 Years” on Tuesday, February 3 at 7:00pm. This lecture centres on “Il disastro di Pavia”, Professor Franco Pierno’s new Italian translation of Jean Giono’s “Le désastre de Pavia”. Professor Pierno will discuss the translation process, the historical significance of Giono’s 1963 book, and its continued cultural relevance. Light refreshments will be served. This presentation will be held in Italian and is presented in partnership with the University of Toronto Department of Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies.

Explore the overlooked experiences of the Julian-Dalmatian exodus and the contributions of these Italian immigrants to Canadian society on Tuesday, February 17 at 7:30pm. This presentation by Professor Konrad Eisenbichler draws from “Forgotten Italians: Julian-Dalmatian Writers and Artists in Canada”, a collection of essays examining the cultural and literary legacy of this community. December brought a season of warmth and togetherness at Villa Colombo Vaughan, as residents, families, staff, and volunteers shared meaningful holiday moments. The month began with the “Deck the Halls” Tree Lighting Celebration, featuring live entertainment, festive treats, and a joyful welcome to the season. Seasonal traditions continued throughout the month, including gingerbread house decorating and an afternoon of hot chocolate and freshly made Christmas pizzelles. Christmas Eve included Mass in the Chapel followed by a special visit from Santa Claus, while Christmas Day was marked with a festive afternoon celebration. The month concluded with Boxing Day socials and an afternoon New Year’s Countdown celebration.
