Daniel Barnes Quartet:
“Classic Beauties” Revisited
| |
Drummer, composer, and producer Daniel Barnes performs with the acoustic Daniel Barnes Quartet for one night only! An all-original program, Barnes’ compositions carry a distinctly lyrical, melodic and buoyantly swinging character. Joined by saxophonist Richard Underhill, pianist Robi Botos and bassist Paul Novotny, the quartet plays tunes from Barnes’ “Classic Beauties” and his debut release, “Culmination”, both staples on JAZZ FM91 and CBC Radio.
Experience this premier musical quartet as they pay homage to the rich jazz tradition that generations have turned to for spiritual inspiration and to hear stories “the greats” have shared through their own music.
Date: Wednesday, November 6, 7:30 – 9:00pm
Price: $20.00 (Adults) / $15.00 (Seniors/Students)

#TributeThursday – Honour Your Family this Thanksgiving | |
As families gather to celebrate Thanksgiving this weekend, Villa Charities wants to thank the many Tribute Project donors who have shared their incredible stories as part of the Villa Charities Italian Canadian Immigrant Tribute installation – stories such as Domenico Grossi, who brought with him tremendous enthusiasm for a new life in Canada but continued to love and respect the country he left behind.
“(He) spent much of his free time in his garden & green house cultivating the many fruits & vegetables that we would enjoy all year round... A carpenter by trade, he was always eager to lend a helping hand to his neighbours & paesani adding additions to their homes or upgrading their interior finishes. There was nothing that he couldn't do with a hammer and saw. He was a great storyteller & often shared his fascinating stories of the Italy he left behind... A devoted father & husband, he was happiest when he was surrounded by his 6 children and 7 grandchildren. He worked hard & for long hours to take care of his family so that one day they wouldn't have to work as hard as him.”
Read more of his story on the Immigrant Map.
This #Thanksgiving, honour your own family’s immigrant experience and give them a once-in-a-lifetime gift to celebrate their lasting legacy. Purchase your name plaque today to ensure you will be included on the installation when it opens – unveiling announcement coming soon!
