#GIVINGTUESDAY is Around the Corner!
Donate Early to Support Our Seniors in Long-Term Care
GivingTuesday is around the corner, which means Christmas is around the corner too.

The holidays are a time for tree decorating, sharing greetings with those we hold dear, enjoying festive meals, and baking Nonna’s Christmas cookies. They are also a time for reflection. Many of our parents and grandparents remember their experiences of journeying to a new country and of arriving in Canada with their suitcases full of hopes and dreams to begin a new life. Now that they are older, we must take care of our elders and provide comfort and care for them. Here at Villa Charities, we have been supporting our long-term care residents at Villa Colombo Toronto (VCT) since 1976.

At Villa Colombo Toronto in our 391-bed long-term care home, aging members of the Italian Canadian community receive high-quality, award-winning geriatric care in a culturally sensitive environment, with innovative programs and services geared toward providing ethno-specific social and recreational activities and programming. We work hard to make our seniors feel comfortable, cared for, understood, respected, and appreciated as part of a family. VCT receives government funding for staffing, programs, and services, but for major capital projects, major upgrades, and new equipment, such as beds and furniture they are reliant on community support.

Currently, VCT needs new beds and resident room furniture that will directly benefit the residents and provide them with a high level of comfort and care. The beds are technically advanced with therapeutic mattresses and touch screens to assist in falls prevention and include an in-bed scale to help monitor the residents’ weight, and special side rails to assist the resident to reposition themselves while in bed. The new bedroom furniture is both functional and safe, including a matching dresser and nightstand to help create a comfortable and home-like space for each resident. Our goal is to raise over $1.3 million!

This #GivingTuesday, help provide comfort and care to our seniors. Your gift will help make the holidays brighter. You can donate online here or mail us at 901 Lawrence Avenue West, Toronto ON M6A 1C3.

Our parents and grandparents took a leap of faith when they came to Canada many years ago. Let’s honour them by making a difference in the lives of the seniors who call Villa Colombo Toronto home.

Wishing you comfort and care this holiday season.
