Visit Inside New London Harbor Lighthouse

Sign up now to visit inside NL Harbor Pequot Light. We give Harbor Light tours year-round!

Meet at the lighthouse, then climb 116 steps to the lantern room -- all the while learning about the 261-year history of Harbor Light, one of the oldest lighthouses in the country, and the tallest on Long Island Sound. The views at the top are spectacular! Harbor Light visits take 40 minutes. Book a tour for up-to five people: click to sign up online, or email to schedule a custom tour during the week.

Tickets are $35, $30 for NLMS members, $25 youth through age 18.

Please support our effort to

Restore the Door at Harbor Lighthouse.

Great news! After a bit of a lull, we've leapt ahead in our campaign!

Last week we received three donations: $50 from the Kettledons, $500 from the Priestleys who visited the lighthouse as a family in mid August, and $1,000 given anonymously! Thank you, all.

Working together, we will reach our goal. We now have the required 50% down payment(!) to get started. Working with the Ironworks company, our project is scheduled to commence in early October. Please help Restore the Door.

This week at the Custom House...

Anemones are abloom alongside the Custom House.

It's a little wild inside the museum, too, as we race to get things organized after an awesome summer season.

Our display case is now donated to Fitch High School and just waiting to be moved; we need the space! Pierce Rafferty's talk for JIBBOOM filled the gallery on Tuesday (photo, below). Open Mic will do the same tonight. Reconfiguring the main gallery will make the room more adaptable and comfortable for all occasions.

This gallery has been in flux for a while. Twelve years ago the museum owned no lighthouses; now we have three. There was no whaling display, no Woolies collection, no grand piano. These three collections and the piano now live in this space!

Colette Hochstein was back in her hometown Friday to bring us a gift -- a small bentwood rocker that formerly belonged to attny. Frank L. McGuire, a founder of New London Maritime Society and the person for whom our maritime research library was named. Colette writes: My parents (Dr. and Mrs. Francis Hochstein) were long-time friends of the Frank McGuire family.

At some point in the 1960's Mr. McGuire gave my mother an antique Bentwood rocking chair in great condition; it had been owned by a Connecticut College professor, Elsie DeWitt...It would be great to return this beautiful item back to a place related to its owner. We are happy to have it, Colette -- thanks!
