Oceanside International Film Festival Opening Night

February 20-24, The Brooks Theater

Established in 2009, OIFF is an opportunity for independent filmmakers to have their work screened along the county’s North Coast region. It also gives attendees a chance for viewing local and international films at a place in Southern California known for its rich history, beautiful beaches, and unique artistic community. Opening night programming starts at 6:30pm.

Star Theatre Co. Presents: Neil Simon's Plaza Suite

February 23-25, The Star Theatre

Hilarity abounds in this portrait of three couples successively occupying a suite at The Plaza. This three-act play is a wry tale of marriage in tatters. Rated PG-13. Show starts at 7:30pm. Sunday (Feb 25) show at 2:30pm.

Oceanside's Black Pioneers: A Conversation With Those Who Inspire Us

February 24, Oceanside Museum of Art

Join in the conversation with the artists, creators, and living legends from the original multimedia theater performance that highlights Oceanside Black Firsts, "Generational Black Pioneers". Moderated by Kristi Hawthorn from Oceanside Historical Society, Rushell Gordon, entrepreneur/owner of Bliss Tea and Treats and producer of, "Generational Black Pioneers. Event runs from 2-5pm.

Sound & Liberation Listening Party

February 25, The Hill Street Country Club

Join the Hill Street Country Club on Sunday, February 25th for Sound & Liberation, a night of experimental performance celebrating Black expression. They are hosting the listening party for Joy Guidry's new record release, featuring special guest performances by Niecy Blues and Myles Ortiz-Green. The gallery will be transformed into a moody lounge, inviting guests to immerse themselves in poetic atmospheres sculpted in sound, drawing from traditions of jazz, gospel, and R&B. Join for an evening of sonic exploration and cultural celebration! Event runs from 6-9:30pm.

Community Budget Workshop

February 20, 1831 Mission Ave

Council Member Eric Joyce will be hosting a Fiscal Year 2024-25 Community Budget Workshop next Tuesday, February 20 from 6-8 PM. This workshop will take place at the MiraCosta Community College Learning Center. This workshop will go over the basics of the City’s budget process as well as expand on the office’s priorities for this year’s budget. You will also have the opportunity to learn on how to advocate for funding of certain departments or projects as the budget process moves along.

Kline Swonger is a cross-disciplinary artist whose research and sculptural work revolves around perception and psychology of space. She imagines place as residing simultaneously in both physical and emotional landscapes, the moments experienced in-between offering new perspective and opportunity for discovery. Viewers are invited to explore their own thresholds of perception, noticing their engagement with the world through their senses.

Oceanside’s SB 1383 Excess Edible Food Recovery Program

California Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383) sets requirements to divert organic waste from landfills and to increase edible food recovery by 20% by the year 2025. The law requires cities to establish edible food recovery outreach and inspection programs, help connect mandated edible food generators with food recovery organizations/services and ensure there is sufficient county-wide capacity for all the recovered edible food.

Energy Bill Assistance is Available

Visit sdge.com/assistance to find out if you qualify for SDG&E programs and services including debt forgiveness, monthly discounts and payment arrangements. Recently, SDG&E announced the expansion of its Neighbor-to-Neighbor utility payment assistance program, which is making $1 million available in shareholder dollars to offset overdue bills for customers who are at least three months or more behind on payments and do not qualify for the federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
