Principal's Effective Ed

Principals have until November 1 to provide a menu of extra work that they would like you to complete throughout the year. Currently, 22.5 hours of PEE are available to each full-time employee. Three hours are designated for open house/curriculum night, and four to seven hours are designated for an advisory period. Not all teachers have an advisory.

A time sheet is required for the remaining hours. You may turn in the time sheets any time after the work is completed. You do not have to write what the hours were for on the time sheet, but you need to be able to tell your principal what activities you completed for the extra pay.

Assault Protocols

KEA continues to hear from members who are struggling with classroom assaults and threats. Last year, 172 assaults against teachers were reported. We are fully aware that several more occurred but were not reported. Already, this year, we are approaching 60 reported assaults on teachers.

It is important that if you are threatened or assaulted, that you report them to your administrators as an "assault". Once it is reported, your administrators are obligated to follow the Assault Response Protocol (can be on found on page 176 in our contract). When this protocol is followed, KEA is in the loop and can advocate for you, your students and administrators (who we feel, in most cases, are doing everything they can to help and support their teachers).

The Assault Response Protocols do not negatively impact your principal, yourself, nor your students. KEA has been able to use them to advocate for more support for buildings and students. We hope you never have to be in a situation where you are being threatened or hurt by students, but if it happens, please report the ASSAULT.
