10:30 AM Livestreaming from the Sanctuary

Our Sunday Morning Worship Plan
Virginia’s current Covid disciplines allow for us to gather for in-house worship. But we are doing so with particular plans that enable us to partner with the larger community to slow the spread of the virus, and to keep our St. Giles folks safe. Each service is livestreamed too. So whether you are in the church house or at home, we hope you’ll join in!

If you join us at the church, here’s what to expect:

1. Our service is at 10:30 in the sanctuary.

2. We ask anyone with Covid-19 symptoms or recent exposure not to come (but do let us know so that we can pray for you).

3. The nursery is open for the littlest ones; children up to 2nd grade can sit with their parents until dismissed for Kids’ Own Worship.

4. We sit only in every other pew, those marked by ribbons.

5. We wear masks. (We have some masks for those without their own.)

6. Whenever weather allows, outdoors is the preferred place for visiting after worship.
Ash Wednesday
Today (Feb.17) is Ash Wednesday, the day which marks our entry into the season of Lent. We will gather for worship at 6:30 p.m., for a service of reflection, and with the traditional imposition of Ashes – though this year complete with masks.
Remembering Wayne Sigler
For several weeks we had been praying for Wayne Sigler as he was hospitalized with Covid, but he passed away last Thursday.

Wayne was our Music Director for several years, and his vibrant worship leadership was key to much of what the Lord did in our midst. He and Terri have resided in Montgomery for some years now. Please be in prayer for their family as they celebrate his life.

The obituary from Montgomery may be found by clicking here.

And here is a song Wayne sang with his sons online last fall:
Sunday Pre-Service Prayer Zoom Meeting
You can join John and Jane Harler in a Zoom prayer meeting every Sunday before the service at 9:45 AM. The Zoom meeting link will be the same as that for the 9 AM Sunday school. If you are not currently attending Sunday school and wish to attend the Zoom prayer meeting, please email John Harler at j.harler@verizon.net
Adult Discipleship
Sundays at 9:00 AM
Tommy Nance is leading a class on Discipleship on Sunday mornings through March 21 at 9:00 a.m. The connection is via ZOOM link. So if you’d like to join in, contact Tommy at twjrnance@gmail.com. The focus is on discipleship and evangelism.
Wednesdays During Lent
For the next five Wednesdays of Lent, Josh and Keith will be interviewing some saints of St. Giles, in a series we’re calling “Life Together.” During Lent we give special attention to how the Lord is growing us as disciples, and in this series we’re directing our attention to how we are partnered with each other in that growth, learning from each other, and encouraging each other. As usual, these Wednesday gatherings of Lent will be at 6:30, and will be live streamed.
Another Lenten Opportunity from a Sister Church
Christ Pres is doing a “Humility Deep Dive” this Lent, and they have invited us to join them for some Wednesday evening Zoom presentations. They have quite a line-up of professors, missionaries, and pastors presenting each of these Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Check it out at https://christpresrva.com/the-humility-talks. You can sign up there for each of the Zoom events.
Church Life
Pushing the Pause Button on Inside Meetings
(Other than Sunday Worship)
Given the current Covid spike, the Governor has asked that groups larger than ten not to meet in person. His plan does exempt churches’ worship services, for which we are grateful. We have had good experience for many months now with our socially distanced, masked, worship patterns, and these will continue. But we are pausing all other gatherings with more than ten people. We have sent notice to all of the leaders of our various in the building gatherings, such as Tuesday morning women’s study, Wednesday evening student and children’s meetings, etc.

As you can see in the accompanying article on adult education classes, we will have Zoom and livestream options. But for now we will be pausing all in person gatherings larger than ten people. We will review the situation every month, and hopefully be back to in person gatherings soon.

Every semester of Jobs for Life, potential students share in their interviews about the significant roadblocks standing between them and their dreams. Discouragement. Depression. Lack of a support system. Lack of education or work history.

What many of these students often don't see, however, are the incredible gifts and strengths God has placed in them. As mentors and class leaders surround the students, participating in the biblical exhortation to "encourage one another and build one another up" (1 Thess. 5:11), transformation happens. Students start to receive the truth that they are not alone, and that God has uniquely prepared them to walk out the calling He has for their lives.

We are still in need of FIVE mentors for the spring 2021 semester. Would you prayerfully consider joining STEP as a mentor?

Mentor orientation will be held Tuesday, March 9th from 6 to 8pm at the Calhoun Center (436 Calhoun St.). Class begins March 16th, and will meet Tuesday evenings from 6pm-8:30pm. Apply here to mentor!
