10:30 AM Livestreaming from the Sanctuary

Our Sunday Morning
Worship Plan Continues
As Virginia has now entered Phase 3 of re-openings, our basic plans for in-house worship continue. These plans enable us to partner with the larger community to slow the spread of the virus, and to keep our St. Giles folks safe.

Livestream will continue! So whether you are in the church house or at home, you may continue to join us.

Here’s what we’re doing:

  • We will have a single service at 10:30 in the sanctuary, and we will continue livestreaming worship.

  • We will ask anyone with Covid-19 symptoms or recent exposure not to come.

  • We will have children will sit with their families.

  • We will sit only in every other pew, individually or by family.

  • We will wear masks. (We have some masks for those without their own.)

  • We will visit outside after worship, with safe distancing.

  • We will celebrate communion with various protections in place.
A Memorial Service for Chic Silver
Chic Silver passed away on August 30, after several recent strokes. His family has requested a private service, with a link to a livestream for any who wish to join in that way. The link will be on the homepage of

The family is pairing this way of celebrating Chic’s life in the Covid-19 restricted environment with an intention to have a bigger, in person celebration of his life in some months, when restrictions are gone. While plans for that have not yet been made, they will be shared as they are made.
Sunday Morning Events This Month
Though we have settled into a routine of sorts with our Sunday morning distanced and livestream worship service, our Sundays often have a special focus. That will be true for every Sunday this September!

Here’s what’s coming up:

6th: We’ll celebrate Jeff Butler’s and Tommy Nance’s staff roles among us. While they will still be around St. Giles life, they will no longer be formally staff members. This gives us a chance to celebrate their ministries, hear from them, and pray for them.

13th: Our children will lead worship (check out the details in the accompanying article)

20th: Josh’s first Sunday! This will be our first time to worship with our new Co-Pastor and his family: Josh, Rebecca, Addie, and Patrick Modrzynski. This service will mark the beginning of a new season of God’s work through St. Giles Church.

27th: We will have our monthly healing prayer ministry.
Childlike Praise and Faith Service
Sunday, Sept. 13th will be a very special day for our St. Giles’ family, as our children will lead us in worship. The kids have been preparing for many months, as this special service was originally planned for April.

For those who plan to attend in person, the children invite you to wear one of the T-shirts they designed (available now for pick up at the church). A $10 donation for the shirt is welcomed, but optional. These should be made to St. Giles.

The kids hope that everyone will worship as a child on this day—feel free to be silly, dance, and express your love for Jesus as if you were 5 years old again (whether you are in the building or joining the live stream from home)!
Our Organ Project
In recent weeks, we have been hearing a lot of questions about what is going on with the rebuild of the organ. Unfortunately due to the current pandemic the project has been pushed out for the time being. Our latest tentative schedule is to have the new console after this Christmas and the job to be finished in the late spring or early summer of 2021. For more details on the progress and pictures of the organ in its current state, click here.
Bike Wash Fun!
Last Wednesday our children's ministry put together a sprinkler fest complete with a "bike wash". A good time was had by all!
Pre-Service Prayer Zoom Meeting
John and Jane Harler will be hosting a pre-service prayer Zoom meeting every Sunday before the service at 9:45 AM. If you would like to join us for a virtual prayer for the service meeting, see the Zoom invitation below:

Adult Discipleship
Sunday Morning Classes
Sunday morning classes have ended for the summer. A new series on Isaiah, taught by James Anderson, will start on September 13, the first Sunday after Labor Day.
Daily Bread
Skip and Karen Thistle have been providing copies of Daily Bread for any who would use it for devotionals. But with most of us not coming into the church building these days, where we can pick one up, our distribution system has broken down. So Skip has volunteered to deliver a copy to any who request it. Thanks, Skip! If you’d like a copy, just call the church office, and we’ll get word to Skip.

TSM's September Seminar on Discernment
In this day and age, discernment is a very valuable commodity! How do you know if what you hear is the truth? How can you tell if what you read is valid? Are we hearing fact, personal belief, wishful thinking or what lines up with our Creator? Come and explore the gift of discernment and spiritual approaches/exercises that will help develop your skills. Learn about this gift, how to use it and avoid its pitfalls. Suggested reading: Jim Goll's "The Discerner" and Francis Frangipane's "Spiritual Discernment and the Mind of Christ."

Seminar Information: Saturday, September 26, 2020 9:00 a.m. to noon

Livestreaming Bible Study and Worship

One of our newer ministries is livestreaming our worship services and some of our classes. If you’d like to check it out, use this link to our YouTube channel. We’re doing it simply - no fancy sound or cameras - but it works to bring you the basics. If you don’t click on during the actual live stream hours, Sundays at 9:30 or 11:00, know that the videos are saved on our YouTube channel page, along with Pastor Keith’s video blogs. Find us at:
