Printing in the Moody Medical Library

  • Library has implemented a new pay-for-print system, PaperCut.
  • This account-based system simplifies the printing and copying process for Library users. UTMB credentials are used to access the printing account and to release print jobs which means users do not have to keep track of a copy card anymore.
  • Print jobs are no longer tied to a specific printer so students can choose any available printer rather than having to wait on previously released jobs to complete before their prints are available
  • The printing system will be integrated with PayPal in the near future which will allow students to add money to their accounts on their own

inclusion of different types of people in a group or organization; different characteristics in a

Hwan-Yeonghada (Welcome)

(Hon Yong Hada -phonetically)

Greetings and welcome! We are thrilled to have you all back on campus (in person and virtually). For some this can be a stressful time as we start new careers or move into new surroundings. I can well remember my years as an American expatriate on a Caribbean Island. One big stress was the language barrier I had with my neighbors in the village where I lived. Most spoke patois and very little English. Our mutual effort to try to communicate greatly relieved my stress. As I walked into my neighborhood “snackette” (island version of 7-11), I would greet my neighbors in patois and they would reciprocate in English. We made mutual efforts to welcome, accept, and try to understand each other. As you proceed this semester find someone who looks like they may be struggling; offer them a warm welcome and smile. You may find that to be even more infectious than Covid-19.

We are a diverse community (students, faculty, and staff). Reach out and get to know someone new. Offer a helping hand. Kindness goes a long way. In that spirit, we will hope to have at least quarterly “DEI” events on Wednesdays after 5 PM (HEC). Our first such event will be on September 14. We hope to have a focus group to present the results of a survey we conducted in the Summer semester. The intent of the survey was to determine our cultural awareness/cultural humility needs.

Sincerely,

José D Rojas, PhD, RRT, RPFT, FAARC

CTSA Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Accessibility (DEIA) Committee Seeks Applications for Pre & Post-Doctoral Student Members

The Clinical and Translational Sciences Award (CTSA) has at its central core, the need for diversity and inclusion in its target research populations. To address this objective of reducing disparities in research and healthcare, the DEIA component of the CTSA has been established to promote better healthcare modalities through scientific discovery in diversified patient groups.

Trainees are an integral part of our academic and healthcare system and will provide a critical linkage to our surrounding communities. As we work to achieve and support a culture of inclusion and promote a sense of belonging, we encourage our students to become positive elements of change as they pursue their educational goals through designated research initiatives. Therefore, the DEIA component of the CTSA seeks to include students in its workforce team and to offer them a voice in our DEIA efforts.

The Committee is seeking individuals who have an interest and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility issues at UTMB.

Application for membership is open to all pre-doctoral and post-doctoral trainees, and the Committee is seeking 2 pre-doctoral and 1 post-doctoral scholar beginning in September 2022. Meetings occur monthly, with the possibility of emergent meetings on an ad hoc basis should the need arise.

The application deadline is September 9, 2022. Applicants selected for the DEIA Committee will be notified in mid-September.

The link to the application can be found here
