What's Up Wednesday?

Are We Going to School in July?

KEA, along with other KSD labor partners, met with the District this morning to discuss the process for making up snow days. It is our understanding that the district will apply for a waiver for three of the cancelled days. OSPI could take up to a month to decide to waive the days or not. So, it will be some time before we know for sure when the last day of school will be.
KEA has received many suggestions on how to make up the days. At this point, all ideas are on the table. Now that discussions are occurring with the district, a communication should be coming out very soon.   Make-up days impact several contracts, and all labor leaders are very mindful on how to the get the best outcome for their members. KEA will keep you undated regularly.

Elementary Conference Make-Ups?

KEA and KSD have entered into conversations about elementary conferences that were cancelled due to inclement weather. KEA floated many proposals, but it appears that the District would like to continue with a full week of scheduled conferences in March. KEA recognizes the high impact on workload regarding rescheduling parents, interpreters, and IEP staff. Discussions between KEA and KSD are continuing, and we will keep you updated!
Calendar Vote Results:

The calendar ballots submitted by KEA members were counted, and the results are as follows:

Calendar #1 (w/ February break)                689 votes (64%)
Calendar #2 (w/o February break)              393 votes (36%)

Our results have been sent to KSD where they will be combined with the other labor union votes. The results will be tabulated and sent to the KSD School Board for final approval. Watch for a calendar announcement from KSD soon.
