April 8 - 12 is the National Association for the Education of Young Children's Week of the Young Child. An annual celebration hosted by NAEYC to spotlight early learning, young children, their teachers, families, and communities. Check out DCDC's Facebook page to see what it's all about!

Danville Community Garden

Danville's Community Garden on Bloom Road is back and has spots available!

Several years ago, DCDC wanted to be able to give back to the community that has been so great to us, and there was open space available to plant, so grew the idea of a community garden.

Our Bloom Road kiddos have their own space to grow and plant at the center as well. This week they are working on thinning their plants, getting them ready to plant outside once the threat of frost has passed!

Free Showing of Won't You Be My Neighbor!

The United Way of Columbia and Montour Counties' Early Learning Investment Committee presents a FREE showing of "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" to share the work and legacy of Fred Rogers with our community.

This film is a launching off point for the Early Learning Investment Committee's Breakfast which will highlight the need for high quality childcare for today's workforce and tomorrows.

As we know, Fred Rogers made positive, loving and secure relationships the cornerstone of his work. The importance of high quality child care to workforce development both now and in the future is important to the United Way, and they welcome the community to learn more through this wonderful documentary.

Thank you to the Central Susquehanna Community Foundation and Columbia Montour Chamber for their sponsorship of this event.

A huge shout of too to the The Berwick Theater and Center for Community Arts for allowing us to use the theater!

EI is on the Road Again!

Danville Child Development Center’s Early Intervention Coordinator, Renea Poust (second from right) recently presented to the staff at Geisinger’s Benton Clinic about its home visiting early intervention program and the process for referring families with young children to the program. Early intervention serves children with developmental delays or special needs, ages birth to three in Columbia, Montour and Northumberland County. Child care is infrastructure. We should treat it that way

Just as our bridges and roads are crumbling, so too are our child care options

OPINION — Millions of American parents dropped their children off at a child care facility this morning. Chances are many of those facilities don’t meet basic health and safety standards. Though we know the quality of a facility, whether a formal center or a family home care site, is directly linked to a child’s development and well-being, we also know most places are far from optimal.

This is yet another way America’s child care system is failing families today.
