Public Policy Update from the desk of Bryan Fox, VP of Public Policy

Last week local and state budget deliberations continued with the County’s public hearing and City & County work sessions, and the County will hold another on Thursday. As additional issues persist, we will keep you updated but remember that many of our priorities are shared by the US Chamber and NC Chamber at the federal and state level respectively, consider getting involved locally by helping fill a vacancy on City & County Boards & Commissions, and continue to reach out anytime.

Volunteers Needed for Durham's World Hunger Day Event!

World Hunger Day Durham is coming on Sunday, June 4!

The Durham County Cooperative Extension and the Triangle Nonprofit and Volunteer Leadership Center are actively recruiting volunteers to help with the day's events. Durham's World Hunger Day event is being held at Durham Central Park from 3-6 p.m.

There are opportunities to work the welcome/information table, be a vendor assistant, volunteer check-in, stage assistant, popcorn assistant, greeter, floater, face painting and balloon art area assistant, parking attendant, set-up crew and breakdown crew.

The event will offer a great time! Food trucks, entertainment, and more!

7th Annual Moving Forward With Purpose Conference

The WBCNC is excited for their upcoming business conference. This year they will celebrate seven years of conducting the inaugural Moving Forward With Purpose Conference (MFWP). Their aim this year is equip leaders and business owners with the tools to thrive in their industry as legacy makers. For this reason MFWP 2023 has the theme "A Living Legacy & Excellent Leadership".

Duke Energy encourages customers to plan for active 2023 hurricane season

Duke Energy encourages its customers to prepare for hurricanes and other severe storms to protect their families and property during the hurricane season, which runs June 1 through Nov. 30.

Our Duke Energy team of meteorologists are currently predicting 17 named storms in the Atlantic Ocean including 10 hurricanes, 3 major hurricanes and 4 Gulf of Mexico storms.

An important part of our work throughout the year is to strengthen the power grid to reduce power outages. We also encourage customers to plan ahead and offer safety tips on our website.
