FORTITUDE CAREERS
Life-Changing Program for Young Adults
Interested in the Trades

The San Mateo County Event Center & Fair was the host of Fortitude Careers’ Summer Build Program this year.

The 8-week program offers a curriculum for Life Skills, Careers Services, and Construction Job Readiness for young adults (18 to 24 years old) interested in a construction trade career.

The Summer Build Program concluded earlier this month, and a job fair and graduation were held. Many of the graduates have accepted positions for work – with a couple being offered positions after talking at the job fair. There are also some that are continuing on to join the Unions.

Did you attend the 18th annual Disaster Preparedness Day at the San Mateo Event Center this year?

The family-friendly event featured demonstrations on first aid and how to prepare a budget-friendly emergency kit. Local fire departments and Community Emergency Response Teams, better known as CERT, also hold demonstrations.

“Kids can sit in a for-real helicopter, get up close with horses from search and rescue teams and meet firefighters,” County officials said.
Samaritan House Backpack Giveaway

Nearly 3,500 backpacks were distributed to local students from preschool to college at the last Samaritan House Backpack Giveaway hosted at the San Mateo Event Center.

The backpack distribution, held at the San Mateo Event Center, was presented by Samaritan House, an organization dedicated to fighting poverty in San Mateo County.

Nearly 60 volunteers from various community groups handed out the school supplies at the event.
