Dear Friends,

We all have a story to tell. What's yours?

Established in 1849, the Monterey Public Library was California's first public library. That's the beginning of our story. What was once a reading room located in El Cuartel, is now a full-service state of the art community resource. While we continue to offer many stories on our shelves, MPL is also devoted to being a community hub - bridging connections. Our picture-book area is a fun gathering place for Preschool Storytime every Thursday morning. Our public computers bring necessary technology to those without access. Free programs about family history and local legends are available to you on Zoom from the comfort of your home. Through stories, we bring people together.

We make stories, we live stories and we share stories each and every day here at the Monterey Public Library.

Won't you be part of our story? I hope you will join us at one of our many upcoming programs.

Thank you for being part of our community,
Inga Waite
Library & Museums Director

MPL's SUPERSTAR VOLUNTEER RECOGNIZED FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE
Congrats are in order for Judy Cole, the leader of MPL's amazing Collections Volunteers. Judy was recognized by United Way for her outstanding community service during the pandemic. When 80% of the MPL staff were laid off, Judy trained a team of volunteers to shelve and retrieve materials, making it possible for the Library to circulate over 189,000 items to tens of thousands of patrons through sidewalk service. Kudos to Judy and all of the other award recipients for their tremendous service.

To join Judy and our many other dynamic teams of MPL volunteers, please sign up: Volunteer Today!
