"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step"... have you planned a summer journey for yourself? Is your destination a place or a state of mind? With Arizona’s summer weather arriving, we find that many of our customers are planning a journey to cooler climates. Others have planned journeys into their sewing room to create something new or finish up something old. In the last few weeks, my personal journey had involved finishing up projects. The oldest of which was twelve blocks of applique that have sat in a lonely stack since 2018. Borders have been added and with the help of my Q’nique 21 it has now been quilted! A total of five quilts were finally assembled and quilted in a one week period. The following week I was able to cut, piece, and quilt a kit that I purchased as my souvenir from QuiltCon 2025. Whew, it’s been a busy few weeks for me! Next up… I’m packing my bags, loading my car and heading off to Salt Lake City to attend the 2025 Dealer Academy held at the Grace Frame headquarters June 3rd and 4th. Sun Valley Quilts is a Top Ten Partner with Grace and we so appreciate the relationship and opportunities we have to work with, learn from and support each other. It’s a true partnership that we have engaged in. My journey will begin with a single mile… and end some 489 miles or 10 hours later. I’ll return to AZ on Thursday in time to prep for Barbara’s big anniversary party! We have added a few new classes to our June schedule – Open Sew days are now Monday, June 9^th and/or Tuesday, June 17^th, Open Sew Embroidery will be offered Tuesday, June 10^th and/or Wednesday, June 18^th, and our monthly Pajama Mama’s will be held on Friday, June 20^th ~ these are all good opportunities to start a new journey or complete an older one. With friends and guides in the classroom you will be sure to enjoy laughter, along with the hum of busy sewing machines. NEW THIS MONTH, Joann will be teaching a Bucket Hat class, these popular hats can be adapted for children or adults. Wear them on your evening walks, wear it to the pool, take it on a hike or make them for your friends! These require no pattern purchase and can be easily completed during class. Shelby was once again asked to teach her Textile Art: Kime Komi class on Sunday, June 22nd. Kime Komi is a traditional Japanese fabric-wrapping technique perfect for utilizing your quilting scraps! In this hands-on class, you'll learn how to transform leftover fabric into beautiful, textured pieces without the need for a sewing machine—making it an ideal nighttime project. Whether you’re a seasoned quilter or new to fabric arts, Kime Komi offers a relaxing and portable crafting experience. This is a wonderful opportunity to discover new ways to repurpose your materials. All skill levels are welcome! Bring your favorite scraps and let your creativity flow as you make stunning Kime Komi art to take home. Come prepared to enjoy a day of inspiration, relaxation, and community. Jan is returning with her updated Embroidery: Freestanding Houseplant class on Tuesday, June 24^th and Wednesday, June 25^th. This is a two day camp in which the plants made are very realistic and beautiful with one hooping per leaf. You may choose which plant to do. Use fabrics shades of your choice. Thread color is also your choice. Download your design from OESD selecting either Freestanding Houseplants #PK50015 or Freestanding Houseplants 2 #13005.
