Our Most Deadly Natural Disaster? It's Heat

While we may identify hurricanes or tornadoes as those natural disasters we fear most, heat kills more people than any other weather event. During the recent heat wave in Phoenix, temperatures topped 110 degrees for more than 30 consecutive days. Emergency rooms were flooded with patients suffering from heat stroke and burns on their limbs from falls onto hot pavement exceeding 150 degrees. Heat is a natural-born killer.
