Meet the First Female Professional Professional Engineer at S&D:

Amanda Whitaker (top left) joined the S&D team as an intern in 2011 and graduated with a Bachelors of Engineering in 2014. To become a Professional Engineer (P.E), she had to complete a 4 year degree in engineering; pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam; and compete 4 years as an Engineer in Training under a PE. She then passed the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam. Only a Professional Engineer can prepare, sign, seal and submit engineering plans and drawings. Amanda is one out of 4 PEs in our company and currently the only woman P.E. at Shapiro & Duncan.
Our People Drive Innovation
For the past year, we have been collaborating on a "Workflow Mapping" process to help improve production and communications internally. With a need for a consistent format of information to execute the work, workflow mapping:

- Reduces rework by gaining timely and accurate submittal information;
- Achieves better management of materials and major equipment through ordering, shipping and storing;
- Improves cash flow through timely billing;
- Provides best value of materials;
- Enhances our internal communications between client, foremen, VDC/BIM, and project management;
- Renews our client's construction schedule and;
- Meets the performance measures of the engineers, which allows the building to perform as intended.
