Good afternoon, Teddies,

I sent an email earlier today with a list of student IDs who have not completed the AEB (Educational Benefits) form. As a reminder, these help us generate dollars for Roosevelt. Please take a look at your earliest convenience.

I also wanted to share one of my favorite pieces of feedback recently. The other day I had the opportunity to give a community update to the Standish Ericsson Neighborhood Association. Among the questions asked, a neighbor raised their hand and said, "My favorite part about riding the bus with Roosevelt students is when they get off in the morning." I thought that was it, the punchline. I can't wait for those loud teenagers to get off the bus. But, that wasn't what she was saying at all.

She wasn't finished. She added, "They are always so polite. They say 'thank you' to the driver as they get off the bus." As a parent and Principal, stories like these lift me up. Over the last few weeks I have noticed students saying please and thank you to our cafeteria staff and to visitors. They have shown respect to others in conversations both formal and informal. Thank you, families, for supporting our work in being RHS - Respectful, Honorable, and Safe. 

When I think about all the hard things happening in the world, what a great way to bring some positivity and smiles to people's faces. Please keep it up!

Hoy envié un correo electrónico con una lista de las identificaciones de estudiantes que no han completado el formulario AEB (Beneficios Educativos). Les recuerdo que esto nos ayuda a generar fondos para Roosevelt. Por favor, léanlo lo antes posible.

También quería compartir uno de mis comentarios favoritos recientemente. El otro día tuve la oportunidad de presentar una actualización comunitaria a la Asociación de Vecinos de Standish Ericsson. Entre las preguntas, una vecina levantó la mano y dijo: "Lo que más me gusta de viajar en autobús con los estudiantes de Roosevelt es cuando se bajan por la mañana". Pensé que eso era todo, la frase clave. ¡Qué ganas de que esos adolescentes ruidosos se bajen del autobús! Pero no era eso lo que quería decir.

No había terminado. Añadió: "Siempre son tan amables. Le dan las gracias al conductor al bajar del autobús". Como padre y director, historias como estas me animan. Durante las últimas semanas, he notado que los estudiantes dicen "por favor" y "gracias" al personal de la cafetería y a los visitantes. Han mostrado respeto en conversaciones formales e informales. Gracias, familias, por apoyar el labor de ser RHS: Respetuosos, Honorables y Seguros.

Cuando pienso en todas las dificultades que ocurren en el mundo, ¡qué gran manera de inspirar positividad y sonrisas! ¡Sigan así!

This Friday, September 26, is the deadline for students to register for our Career Pathways program!

Career Pathways helps students build valuable career skills and connections through a weekly college and career readiness program held at the Project Success Best Buy Teen Tech Center.

Program Highlights:

-Open to students ages 16–19

-Free transportation for MPS public school students (to PS and back home)

-A 3-tiered participation model that rewards commitment

-Earn up to $600 in stipends during the program, plus a $300 bonus for completing a capstone project (20 hours of technical skill training of their choice)

-Additional opportunity for a paid summer internship
