Dear Roosevelt Families,

Beginning Spring Session 2024, Roosevelt Drivers Ed registration will move to a lottery system with the
hope of creating a more equitable distribution of the 30 spots in our Drivers Ed classes.
Parents/guardians/students will have one week to join the waiting list (which will require completed
registration and payment information). Once the registration window closes, 30 students will be
selected at random and moved into the class. Selected students and parent/guardians will be notified
via email and payments will be processed at that time. Students who are not selected will remain on the waiting list and contacted only if a spot becomes available.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION:

The Spring 2024 Session of Drivers Ed at Roosevelt:
Class will meet May 6th - 17th from 3:30-6:30pm (Monday-Friday afternoons for two weeks) at Roosevelt High School.

Registration Window: This class will be available for registration online between Monday, March 4th and Monday, March 11th.

The class will appear “full” but it’s not... we are requiring everyone to join the
waiting list first (which will require completed registration and payment information) and we will select
30 students at random once the registration window has closed. Students and parent/guardians will be
notified via email if they have been selected the week of March 11th, the remaining students will stay on the waiting list and will be notified only if a spot becomes available.

Drop-In Registration Assistance: If you need help completing your online registration, you may drop by
our office during the following days and times, and we can help get you signed up:
Roosevelt Community Ed Office: Room 155
Monday, March 4th: 3:30-5pm
Wednesday, March 6th: 3:30-5pm
Friday, March 8th: 11:15am-1:15pm

GENERAL INFORMATION:
If you have ever tried to sign up for Drivers Ed, you likely know it’s not easy to get in. We only have 30
spots in each class and hundreds of Roosevelt students who want to take it. Unfortunately, there is not
enough time in our school schedule to offer more than one class each session and many Roosevelt
students end up taking Drivers Ed through private driving schools or at other MPS locations during the
summer through Minneapolis Community Ed. These options require students to find their own
transportation, which of course isn’t as convenient as taking the class right here after school. We work
hard to communicate the Drivers Ed registration process and dates to families and have tried various
systems over the years to make this process as fair as possible, despite the inevitable supply/demand issues. Please check out our Drivers Ed website where you can access this information along with very
detailed information about the process to obtain a MN Class D Instruction Driving Permit.

In addition to hosting the Student Driver’s Education Classroom Training that meets three times each
school year: fall, winter, and spring sessions, the Roosevelt Community Education office coordinates
Adult Enrichment and 55+ Programs, which offer 300+ classes that serve over 3,600 participants’ annually. Check out our Winter 2024 classes here: http://guide.mpls.k12.mn.us/2024-winter-

We look forward to seeing many of you in Drivers Ed! Please feel free to reach out if you have any
questions!

WHAT'S GOING ON AT SCHOOL
A Project Success Field Trip to see Henry V on
May 14, 2024 at 10:30am at the Guthrie Theater.

King Henry V strives to gain respect during England’s growing unrest. He takes his father’s advice to turn the people’s attention toward foreign conquests and resolves to make a claim to the French crown. As the king prepares to set sail for France, an assassination plot is uncovered. England’s demands are rejected by France thereby raising the stakes and increasing the hostility in the air. The resulting Battle of Agincourt is a bold examination of power, camaraderie, and courage against all odds as Henry leads his vastly outnumbered army to unexpected victory.

This show contains mature themes including warfare, violence, and death.

If you have any questions about the field trip, please call Linnea at Project Success at (612) 870-1486. Tickets and transportation are provided by Project Success. There is no cost to you or your student to attend this field trip.
We need a completed permission slip for each student attending the show. Students without a slip will not be able to attend.
