If you are planning to purchase a Christmas tree, consider purchasing a living tree. If you purchase a living tree in a container, and you don’t intend to plant it on your own property, you may donate it to our local Monroe city parks so that everyone can enjoy it for years to come. Call the Parks & Recreation office at (360) 863-4559 for information on how to donate your potted living Christmas tree.

“Our living Christmas tree program allows residents who use living Christmas trees to donate suitable trees to the City for planting in our parks and open spaces after the holidays,” Mayor Geoffrey Thomas said.

You may find suitable living Christmas trees for sale at the following local area businesses:

West Coast Nursery - 18720 St Route 203, Monroe; 360-794-5457

Pine Creek Farms and Nursery - 23225 Sofie Rd, Monroe; 360-863-8866

Falling Water Gardens - 17516 WA-203, Monroe,; 360-863-1400

"To say that our hearts are full is an understatement. Thank you, Monroe, for showing up today in such a big way! Today, we laid over 600 wreaths on veteran’s headstones for Wreaths Across America. Thank you to the many organizations and civic leaders who came out. Thank you to our amazing Auxiliary, the City Council members, the School Board Members, the Police Officers, Scouts, JROTC, Civil Air Patrol, Active-Duty Coast Guard members, Royalty from Gold Bar, Miss Teen Washington, and on and on. Thank you. Thank you to the Starbucks for the coffee, hot water for cocoa, and all the extras. Thank you, Coastal Farm & Ranch in Monroe, for helping us offload all of our wreaths earlier this week. To our community, thank you."

During the Madison Street reconstruction project this Summer, the contractor noticed and salvaged an old brass nameplate “Madison” embedded in the original concrete sidewalk. The nameplate was in rough shape and a member of our community took it upon himself to clean, straighten, and put a shine to the old nameplate, returning it to a like new condition. The city had the contractor reinstall the brass nameplate into the new concrete sidewalk and it can be seen when walking the sidewalk at the northeast corner of Madison Street and Main Street (near Candido’s). We would like to recognize and thank Mr. Randall Trivett for his interest and efforts in restoring that piece of Monroe’s history, and to Marshbank Construction (the contractor) who salvaged the nameplate from the rubble. Thank you!
