The Revd Canon Anna Eltringham, currently the Team Rector for Oxted, in the Diocese of Southwark, will be the new Bishop of Ripon, Downing Street announced this morning. She will swap Surrey’s North Downs for the Yorkshire Dales and more when she becomes an Episcopal Area Bishop in the Anglican Diocese of Leeds, serving many rural parishes and varied urban communities from Ripon to Ribblehead and Richmond to Wetherby. Christians across our diocese are being urged to pray and fast for Sudan as the conflict continues. The fighting that has erupted in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, and elsewhere in the country is a direct result of a vicious power struggle within the country's military leadership. Read more here
Around a thousand people gathered at Newcastle Cathedral to celebrate the inauguration of the Right Reverend Dr Helen-Ann Hartley as the 13th Bishop of Newcastle. Bishop Helen-Ann, formerly Bishop of Ripon in the Diocese of Leeds, succeeds the Right Reverend Christine Hardman who retired in October 2021. Read more here
Our bishops are sending warmest greetings to our Muslim friends as they celebrate Eid-al-Fitr. The bishops thank our Muslim friends for their contributions to local and national life, and assure them of our prayers during the year ahead. Read more here
A recent pet service in Bellerby gave people the opportunity to celebrate and pray for their pets, past and present. The service was held in Bellerby Village Community Garden, which is next to several local farms. Read more here
Hundreds of families poured through the doors of Ripon Cathedral to enjoy this years Spring Food, Home & Garden Fair. Visitors came from all over Yorkshire to see the baby animals kindly provided by Riggmoor Reindeer Co, with Jeffery the donkey and Bullseye the horse proving to be the stars of the show, posing for photographs with the Dean of Ripon, the Very Revd John Dobson. How we respond to climate change as Christians is the topic of an upcoming weekend of events at one of our Huddersfield area churches. Holy Nativity Mixenden are hosting the Doxecology conference on Saturday, May 20, with keynote speakers, workshops and activities exploring creative, political and worship responses to climate change. A spectacular weekend of celebrations in honour of its architect John Carr will be hosted at St Peter’s Church in Horbury from Friday, April 28 to Sunday, April 30. Read more here
The Diocese of Leeds is offering the opportunity to join its two-year Bradford Mission Apprentice scheme from September 2023. Supported by Church of England funding, we are looking to employ 23 part-time Mission Apprentices to help drive and expand the church’s missional work in the Bradford Episcopal Area. Read more here

Our Bishops are sending warm greetings and support to our Sikh sisters and brothers during the festival of Vaisakhi. The Sikh harvest festival also acts as the beginning of the Indian Solar New Year. Read more here

Explore the places and people of Jesus’ ministry in this eight week course. Through scripture, contemporary writing and archaeological evidence we discover anew how ‘the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.’ The course will be led by Canon Gordon Dey. Find out more here
Saturday, May 20 at 10am
A day for people who are interested in revisiting prayer ministry and developing their skills. During the day, we’ll be looking at why praying for people in this way matters, and how Jesus did it. This course will take place at St Mark’s Church, Keighley, and will be led by Revd Angela Hannafin, and Revd Natasha Thomas. My Faith Story is an online course designed to help Christians feel more confident about sharing their own personal faith story. The course will be run in three sessions, from 7.30pm - 9pm. Find out more here

Christ Church Oxford are offering a two-week residential summer school for members of the clergy, theologians and teachers of religious education. Explore the programme theme Christian Theology in a Time of Global Crises. Participate in seminars taught by members of Oxford University's Theology Faculty, distinguished theologians, and prominent church leaders. Join Revd John Bavington, vicar of Great Horton and Lidget Green, for a day of exploring the Bible. Attendees will take a deep dive into scripture, learning how it points to the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Book a place here

Pilgrimage at Ripon Cathedral
Saturday, May 13 at 10am
A welcome with light refreshments will be followed by a pilgrimage around the cathedral including a visit to the beautiful and moving crypt. The pilgrimage morning will finish with a Eucharist at 12 noon, leaving the remainder of the day free for you to wander around the cathedral at your leisure and visit the rest of the city. Pentecost Praise
Sunday, May 28 at 1pm
Bishop Tony Robinson, Bishop of Wakefield is planning to celebrate Pentecost on Sunday 28th May with a Picnic Lunch in Thornes Park, followed by a Pentecost Walk to the Cathedral where he hopes to celebrate with a service of Pentecost Praise at 3pm outside, (weather permitting). At the picnic lunch there will be free tea, coffee and soft drinks and a circus entertainer for the children. This is a free event and no booking is necessary. Everyone is welcome. This post will form a key part of the operations and administration team at Bradford Cathedral, helping to ensure that our governance and administration is streamlined, efficient and effective.
