Excitement is building across the Diocese of Leeds as churches prepare to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee over the extended bank holiday weekend. From Cream Tea on the Green at Keighley, to a Flower Festival at All Saints Church Castleford, a variety of special events are planned to bring local communities together. Find out more here
Huddersfield said farewell with a loud round of applause as Bishop Dr Jonathan Gibbs said goodbye at a special evensong service. Civic representatives at the town’s parish church included the Mayor of Kirklees, Cllr Nigel Patrick and Jason McCartney MP for Colne Valley and worshippers were welcomed by the Rt Revd Nick Baines, Bishop of Leeds. The Archbishop of Canterbury has announced a call to prayer for the 2022 Lambeth Conference. The fifteenth Lambeth Conference will meet on July 26 - August 8 in Canterbury. As the conference draws closer, Archbishop Justin has shared a call to prayer with the conference delegates and their wider church communities. Find out more here
People all across the diocese have taken part in the launch of a diocesan pilot scheme for Extended Communion. Launched at an introductory session on Tuesday, May 10, the scheme is designed to help benefices face the challenges of ministering to multiple churches. Find out more here
Over 5000 trees have been planted recently at Bishop Young Academy in the Seacroft area. In conjunction with the Plant a Tree Today Foundation, the Green Task Force, The White Rose Forest and the school, the Leeds Centre for Mission helped plant the trees as part of plans for a forest in the grounds of the school. Six churches from across Yorkshire are celebrating this month after being awarded over £32,000 from the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust, including St Mary the Virgin in Woodkirk. St Mary’s have received some £7000 to go towards window repairs in the church. Find out more here
Green Journey is ready to help our churches make the switch to renewable energy, which may also offer some financial benefits as well. Green Journey help churches to reduce overall energy costs while improving green credentials and reducing environmental impact. Find out more here
Dramatic stories of displaced children feature in the Riding Lights Theatre Company latest production entitled My Place, which has come to St Paul’s Ireland Wood. The church hosted the travelling company on Tuesday, May 24, in support of the Home for Good charity, which works to find a home for every child who needs one. Find out more here
Castleford Team Parish continue to show their support for two local food banks, donating items for those in need in the local community. Two of the churches in the parish, Castleford Parish Church and Hightown, are supporting The Link at Smawthorne Community Church. The other churches in the parish also support the recently formed Airedale Food Bank. Find out more here

Accepting Applications for Lay Ministry Pathways now
The latest deadline for all lay ministry pathways (LLM, LPM, LWL) is 12 noon on Tuesday, May 31 to allow for the necessary interviews and safeguarding checks to take place. Further information for the Licensed Lay Ministry Pathway may be found here, for the Lay Pastoral Minister Pathway may be found here and for the Lay Worship Leader Pathway may be found here.
Our stewardship team are visiting towns all over the diocese to talk about giving this spring and summer. Covering topics such as giving reviews, online and contactless giving, grants, treasurer support and the PGS, these full day events will be of interest to clergy and church leaders. A session exploring the different ways in which we harness technology in church to aid work with young people. From advertising and app awareness to safeguarding and Zoom, this session will take a look at the potential, practicalities and pitfalls of delivering digital youth work. The Feast, a national interfaith organisation, will be leading an online workshop for clergy/readers/lay leaders across the Diocese. The session will introduce the Feast's Guidelines for Dialogue, a tool developed to help create the safe spaces for honest and respectful conversations to happen. Saturday, May 28 to Wednesday, June 1
The boys, girls and lay clerks of the Cathedral Choir will be on tour in East Anglia. They will be singing at churches across the region, including Ely Cathedral, St Edmundsbury Cathedral, St John the Baptist RC Cathedral, Norwich, and Southwell Minster.
