The Diocese of Leeds has shared resources to help our parishes respond to the crisis in Ukraine, hosting a well-attended webinar to support people all across our region. The webinar was hosted by the Bishop of Bradford, the Rt Revd Toby Howarth, and featured a briefing on the current situation from the Bishop of Leeds, the Rt Revd Nick Baines. Read more here

Students in Leeds are encountering the Christian faith through a newly planted student congregation. Church at Hyde Park Corner, run from St Augustine’s Wrangthorn in the heart of the Leeds student area, was launched in September 2021 after a Church of England grant was gifted. Read more here

The Archbishop of York joined with worshippers at Christ Church Sowerby Bridge during a year in which they are celebrating 200 years of a spiritual and physical presence in the town. He was joined by the newly appointed Archdeacon of Halifax and representatives from churches in the “Halifax and Calder Valley” deanery. Read more here

Martin House Children’s Hospice will benefit from the energetic efforts of Revd Paul Harford and his wife Sarah, who are taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge to raise money to support its valuable work. Revd Paul is vicar of Bishop Thornton, Burnt Yates, Markington, Ripley, and South Stainley and they will be part of a small group that will climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon – the tallest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales, with a combined height of over 11,000 feet - within 24 hours. The Energy Footprinting Tool for Church Buildings is now open for 2021 data collection. The tool allows churches to work out their CO2 emissions for the year, which is an important part of helping churches to reach carbon net zero by 2030, as part of diocesan and national plans. Read more here

Bishop Helen-Ann joined with Ripon Runners last week, collectively running the distance from Ripon to Kyiv to help raise awareness and funds to support refugees fleeing from Ukraine. "Throughout the week members of the club ran for Ukraine, completing 1365 miles collectively," said the Bishop of Ripon, the Rt Revd Helen-Ann Hartley. Read more here

Three new Honorary Canons have been installed at Bradford Cathedral. The Venerable Bill Braviner, Archdeacon of Halifax, has been made Honorary Canon, while Cal Bailey has been made Honorary Lay Canon. Furaha Mussanzi was made Ecumenical Canon. |

St Mark’s Longwood have been blessing dogs, hamsters and more at a recent pet blessing service. The Revd Simon Crook, Vicar of the parish, said: “We had a great Pet Blessing Service with many new people coming to church to express how much their pets meant to them, and to hear God's blessing spoken. A series of conversations are underway at Huddersfield Parish Church, offering people in the local community the opportunity during Lent to engage with topics of great importance. The final conversation will be taking place on Tuesday, April 5 and will be about Poverty and Justice. Read more here

Accepting Applications for Lay Ministry Pathways now |
The latest deadline for all lay ministry pathways (LLM, LPM, LWL) is 12 noon on Tuesday, May 31 to allow for the necessary interviews and safeguarding checks to take place. Keighley Parish is opening the Parish church on the green for people to come and express their solidarity with the Ukrainian people through a short time of prayer and reflection. There will be an opportunity for people to make a donation to the Ukrainian crisis by giving £1 for a sunflower that will be placed in the church as a symbol of solidarity. |

United in Prayer for Ukraine |
On Sunday, April 3 2022, churches and Christians from across the UK and Ireland will come together in an act of witness to pray and light candles for Ukraine, for an end to the conflict, and for all those affected by the terrible impact of war. Resources to support this can be found here

The brutal conflict in Ukraine has triggered the largest war-related migration of people since the Balkan War of the 1990s. The Church of England has published this 'toolkit' of resources for parishes seeking to help refugees and evacuees from Ukraine.
