How our larger churches can respond the challenges posed by emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic is the topic at an upcoming diocesan training day. Recent research shows that larger churches (with over 100 people) have typically recovered less well after COVID than many smaller churches. Read more here

Two new bishops in the Diocese of Leeds will be consecrated at York Minster on Thursday, June 22. The Revd Canon Smitha Prasadam, Chaplain of St Albans, Copenhagen, is to be the next Bishop of Huddersfield, while the Revd Canon Anna Eltringham, Team Rector of Oxted, will be the next Bishop of Ripon. Ordinands across the diocese are getting ready to begin their ministry this summer. 18 new deacons will be ordained at Bradford Cathedral on Saturday, July 1, before starting curacies in parishes all over our region. Read more here

How we can get involved in our communities better is the topic of an upcoming joint event in the diocese. On Wednesday, June 14 the Barnabas: Encouraging Confidence team are partnering with the Wellsprings Together team to hold a joint event, “Encouraging Confidence in Social Action”, which is open to all and is an chance to gather together to celebrate and learn. Passers-by in Skipton could be forgiven for thinking Spiderman was in town recently as nimble figure clambered over the roof of Christ Church and abseiled down the church tower. In fact they were members of a team of specialist roofers contracted to carry out repairs to the Grade ll* listed Victorian building in Cross Street. Read more here

Meeting Point, the charity based at Christ Church, Upper Armley, is celebrating 20 years of helping refugees and asylum seekers in the Leeds area. Meeting Point provides practical and emotional support to the many people who arrive in Leeds from around the world seeking sanctuary. Read more here

Starting September 2023. Year 1 of this programme, “Spiritual Growth and Transformation”, is for those who want to deepen their own spiritual journey and explore their gifts to accompany others. Year 1 stands on its own but can be followed by Year 2 and 3 with a more specific focus on the ministry of Spiritual Direction. This programme is suitable for both clergy and lay. Churches across the Diocese are encouraged to join the Churches Conservation Trust at St John's Leeds on Saturday, June 24 for their annual Leeds Heritage Skills Festival 2023. This free to attend open day will offer hands on experience with blacksmiths, lead workers, carpenters, stonemasons, glaziers and more in attendance. Churches from across the area are invited to come along and take part, particularly if you know someone who might be considering an apprenticeship or career within the heritage / cultural sector. Now that the new king has been installed, The King's Men are returning to All Saints Church, Kirkby Overblow after an absence of 4 years.
