Churches across our diocese remain at the centre of community life, as shown by their role in honouring selfless courage and sacrifice in the lead up to Remembrance Day. St Bartholomew’s Arkendale for example have created a stunning display as part of their act of remembrance, making use of new LED lighting to illuminate the church in red. Find out more here

After a series of difficult Christmases, Churches across the diocese are encouraged to welcome people back to services and events this Advent, as part of the Church of England’s annual Christmas campaign. It aims to support, equip and inspire churches to invite as many people as possible to church this December. Find out more here

The stunning ‘Gaia’ earth installation was unveiled at Holy Trinity Boar Lane, Leeds on Monday evening by the Bishop of Kirkstall, the Rt Revd Arun Arora. ‘Gaia’ is an illuminated, 6 metre in diameter, super-accurate replica of our planet, created by artist Luke Jerram using detailed NASA imaging of the Earth’s surface. Ripon Cathedral have recently played host to an 'Eco Church' exhibition put together by the Eco Action Group based at the cathedral. The aim of the exhibition is to explain to people what 'Eco Church' is and to raise awareness of the Church of England's strategy to achieve Net Zero Carbon in its buildings by 2030. Skipton Library is hosting a display about the great work of the Towards Carbon Neutral Churches in Craven group this November. The group of five churches comprises Burton in Lonsdale, Carleton, Draughton, Embsay with Eastby and Holy Trinity Skipton. Find out more here

Alison Askew, a retired priest living in Ripon, has written a short book for Advent. It contains several reflections, a series of meditations and suggestions for reflection, prayer or discussion. All the royalties from the sale of the book are being donated to Friends of the Holy Land, providing food, medicine and education for the most vulnerable Christians in the Holy land. Images of angels in a new art exhibition at St Peter’s Harrogate are prompting thought and reflection. The latest of its Come to Know exhibitions takes its title – A Little Lower - from these verses: What is man that you are mindful of him, or the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honour. Find out more here

St Hild College is offering three online Short Courses in Spring 2023 to help build faith, grow the church and care for creation. Short Courses take place on Thursday evenings. - support participants pastorally in their learning and development.
