The Diocese bade a fond farewell to the Rt Revd Dr Helen-Ann Hartley at a special evensong service at Ripon Cathedral. She has now left her suffragan role of five years as the Bishop of Ripon to take up a new challenge as the diocesan Bishop of Newcastle. Read more here

New arrivals from Hong Kong continue to be supported and welcomed by St Barnabas’ Church in Alwoodley. Since the announcement in 2021 of the British National Overseas passport scheme, allowing Hong Kong citizens to come and reside in the UK, North Leeds has seen a large number move from Hong Kong. Following media reports of the meeting of the College of Bishops to discern a way forward for the Church of England on questions of identity, sexuality and marriage, the National Church issued a response yesterday. Read more here.

Our cohort of Leeds Diocesan Interns have started 2023 with much food for thought as they came together again for weekly Monday training which is designed to equip them for life, work and leadership. Coinciding with Martin Luther King Day, The Rt Revd Arun Arora, Bishop of Kirkstall, led an interactive session on Racial Justice. Read more here

On Sunday, February 12 it is Racial Justice Sunday. Racial Justice Sunday is for all churches to reflect on the importance of racial justice, to give thanks for the gifts and beauty of human diversity, and to commit to end racism and acts of discrimination. Bishop Nick has been seeing what goes on in our schools, with a recent visit to Whinmoor St Paul’s in Leeds. Bishop Nick was shown around by four children from the school’s Worship Committee, children from each class who are elected to help the school plan, prepare and deliver daily worship. Read more here

Former Archbishop of Canterbury, the Rt Revd Rowan Williams will begin Follow Me 2023, a series of inspiring talks and events organised by the Rt Revd Tony Robinson, Bishop of Wakefield. Wakefield Cathedral will welcome the noted theologian and writer for his talk entitled Agents of the new creation: bring the world to life, on Thursday, February 9. Read more here

Our Diocesan Advisory Committee is expanding its ability to support parishes with their buildings, with the recent addition of three new members and seven new specialist advisors. Their contribution will assist the DAC and its staff support parishes care for their church buildings in the best way and develop them as centres of mission that serve God’s people. Read more here

The Safeguarding Team are looking to recruit “Link persons” from around the Diocese to assist in responding to, assessing and managing safeguarding concerns or allegations made against church officers. The link person may be a senior member of clergy, including retired clergy. Read more here

All are welcome to join Bradford Cathedral for Choral Evensong, sung by the Cathedral Choir during term time. This is a meditative service in which the congregation participate through their presence and prayerful engagement with the spoken and sung texts. Find out more here

Join Ripon Cathedral as they celebrate Christ’s Presentation at the Temple with a Ripon tradition – the lighting of over 7,000 candles in a series of glorious displays through the building. Find out more here

In response to the cost of living crisis, churches across our diocese have begun to open their doors to the public as Warm Spaces. One of those churches is St Paul’s Ireland Wood who have set up a weekly space on a Monday teatime called Warm Welcome. Watch the video here
