The Church of England has published a ‘toolkit’ of resources for parishes seeking to help refugees and evacuees from Ukraine in the wake of the Russian invasion of the country. The material brings together advice on how churches can help through giving, longer-term practical support, prayer and advocacy. Read more here
The Bishop of Leeds, the Rt Revd Nick Baines, has encouraged people in the diocese to support the people of Ukraine in his recent presidential address to Diocesan Synod. Bishop Nick spoke about the various ways we can help those supporting people in need of aid in and fleeing from Ukraine. Read more here
The Diocese of Leeds is pleased to announce that the next Rector of Leeds will be the Revd Canon Paul Maybury. Revd Paul joins the Minster from Bradford Cathedral, where he has been Acting Dean since last summer, having previously been the Cathedral’s Canon Precentor. Read more here
Living in Love and Faith was a significant topic at the most recent Diocesan Synod, as the deadline for responding draws near. Synod were given an opportunity to consider how they felt the process had gone, as well as what the next steps in our diocese and further afield might be. Read more here
Dr Sally Smith, of the Upper Wharfedale parish in the Ripon area, has been honoured as part of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s 2022 Lambeth Awards. Sally has been the Cross of St Augustine for services to the Anglican Communion, as she has played a leading role on the COVID-19 Global Taskforce convened by the Anglican Alliance. Read more here
Our Diocesan interns have been learning about the rich diversity of people in our region, with a visit to a mosque in Leeds. The interfaith trip to the Makkah Mosque, in Hyde Park in Leeds, came as part of the interns’ Monday training sessions, where they gather from across the diocese to learn and grow together. Miracle maker, survivor, pioneer, controversial figure: Ripon Cathedral celebrates the life and legacy of Wilfrid, its founding father, with a year of spectacular arts, music, history and sound and light events to mark its 1350th anniversary. Read more here
The clergy of the Ripon areas recently met for their first in-person study day since 2019. The Bishop of Ripon, the Rt Revd Dr Helen-Ann Hartley, organised a ‘slow day’ for the clergy, giving them a chance to rest and learn together in a low-stakes environment. Read more here

Accepting Applications for Lay Ministry Pathways now
The latest deadline for all lay ministry pathways (LLM, LPM, LWL) is 12 noon on Tuesday, May 31 to allow for the necessary interviews and safeguarding checks to take place. Further information for the Licensed Lay Ministry Pathway may be found here, for the Lay Pastoral Minister Pathway may be found here and for the Lay Worship Leader Pathway may be found here.
Starting on Tuesday, March 22 at Ilkley All Saints, our stewardship team are visiting towns all over the diocese to talk about giving this spring and summer. Covering topics such as giving reviews, online and contactless giving, grants, treasurer support and the PGS, these full day events will be of interest to Clergy and church leaders. Performance of 'Messiah' at St Mark's Harrogate

St Mark's are pleased to present 'Messiah' for their Easter Evening Praise. Their regular choir members will be joined by an augmented group of singers. Choir and soloists, will be accompanied by an experienced and professional group of instrumentalists making this a wonderful and spiritual end to Easter.

The brutal conflict in Ukraine has triggered the largest war-related migration of people since the Balkan War of the 1990s. The Church of England has published this 'toolkit' of resources for parishes seeking to help refugees and evacuees from Ukraine.
This Lent the Church of England are calling us to reflect on the injustices of the world and ask what God is calling us to do about them. #LiveLent: Embracing Justice is the Church of England’s theme for Lent 2022 and a variety of resources have been created for churches to use. The Diocese of Leeds is pleased to share its toolkit for churches as part of its strategy for achieving carbon net zero by 2030: Saving Creation. The toolkit invites churches to start on the pathway to carbon net zero by taking six steps towards the goal. Access it here
Living in Love and Faith, The Church of England’s landmark set of resources on questions of identity and which draws together the Bible, theology, science and history with powerful real-life stories has now been published. The product of three years’ work includes a 480-page book, a series of films and podcasts, a course and an online library of other publications. Find more here
Grants are now available for Christian Books from Speaking Volumes. Grants can be up to £500 for any library whether it’s in a school, prison, hospice or church. Applications close on Saturday, April 30. To find out more, please visit the Speaking Volumes website.
