Diocese gathers youth workers at our cathedrals to share thanks and support

The diocese has been pleased to bring together youth workers from across the diocese this year at a series of events at our cathedrals.

All those involved in ministry with children and young people in churches were invited to attend one of the three TEND events. Read more here

Young public speakers are off to London for national public speaking contest

A remarkable gathering of 18 young people from different Anglican dioceses in Yorkshire, took centre stage at St. Margaret's Church, Ilkley, in the regional Cranmer Awards public speaking competition. Read more here

Journeys of Hope exhibition at Bradford Cathedral during Black History Month

During October and into November, Bradford Cathedral is hosting an exhibition of Ugandan Asian migration stories, alongside stories from the Windrush Community.

These two exhibitions – which are sponsored by the University of Bradford – open up dialogue between different journeys of hope. Read more here

Bishop Toby helps lead multi-faith prayer vigil in Bradford

People gathered in the centre of Bradford for a multi-faith prayer vigil amid the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.

Held by faith leaders from across the Bradford district, the Centenary Square vigil was an opportunity for reflection. Read more here

Church of England seeks stories of pioneers of racial justice

The Church of England is looking to share stories to celebrate church pioneers of Racial Justice. The struggle for racial justice remains a challenge. For centuries, campaigners have organised and undertaken important advocacy and educational work. In more recent times, courageous churchwomen and men, along with organisations and dioceses, have stood up and stepped forward to inspire, organise, and support activities that reflect the biblical imperative towards oneness in Christ. Read more here

How can the church better welcome and value neurodiversity? We will be learning from people who have personal experience of neurodiversity about the difficulties they have encountered within church and how we can better welcome and value people’s diverse gifts. There will be time for questions and sharing best practice, as well as worship. All are welcome. Find out more here.

Give To Go Green. A new pilot scheme is helping churches in our diocese double their money for carbon-cutting projects. Give To Go Green is a match-funding pilot project from the Church of England working with churches in the Dioceses of Leeds and Exeter to double locally raised donations, to allow for more work on reducing carbon emissions.

Church Buildings Grants – deadline October 31. A Diocesan Church Buildings Grant may help you meet the cost of the building repairs. The next closing date for applications is Tuesday, October 31.

Get Digital Giving Ready for Christmas – Webinar Tuesday November 14. Join the Stewardship team to discover how to get the best out of your digital giving devices for Advent and Christmas. We will demonstrate how to use Give A Little to create a Christmas fundraising campaign for your devices and online giving pages.

Licensed Lay Ministry (Reader) Training starting in September 2024

Wednesday, November 15, 10am - 12pm, Bradford Cathedral

Eligibility criteria, discernment information and an initial enquiry form have been sent to all incumbents, chaplaincy team leaders, PCC Secretaries and Churchwardens in September 2023. A reminder will be sent in early January 2024. The deadline for initial enquiry forms is 01 February 2024. Once an initial enquiry form has been received an application pack will be sent out.

Introduction to Theology 

Spring 2024 weekly online and Summer 2024 monthly in-person at the Trinity Centre in Bingley

A 12 session journey looking at the Christian faith, your own faith journey and developing theological skills. All students will be encouraged to create a portfolio of your new skills. Potential LLM candidates need to submit their portfolio for review. This course is a pre-requirement for LLM training.

A service of remembrance for anyone affected by the loss of a baby at any stage of pregnancy, at birth or in infancy, whether recently or historically, and for those grieving never having had children. Organised in conjunction with the Mariposa Trust. Find out more here.

Living Well Conference

Saturday, November 4, St George's Leeds

The conference jointly hosted by the Anglican Minority Ethnic Network (chair: the Rt Revd Smitha Prasadam, Bishop of Huddersfield) and USPG. We will be asking what 'living well' looks like for Christians. How to live well within oneself, the Church, and within our communities and wider society, drawing on Christ, our Living Well. Guest speakers will include the Rt Revd Arun Arora – Bishop of Kirkstall and co-chair of the Archbishops’ Anti-Racism Task Force, and Canon Sanjee Perera – Cognitive Psychologist and Ecclesiologist, Associate at Virginia Theological Seminary, and formerly Archbishops' Advisor on Minority Ethnic Affairs, Church of England. of groupings within Islam and Christianity

This day with Chris Hewer will explore unity and diversity within Christianity and Islam. Chris Hewer is a Christian who comes from a background in Christian theology, education, Islamic studies and inter-faith studies. He has worked in the field of Muslims in Britain and Christian-Muslim relations since 1986, including 6 years as Adviser on Inter-Faith Relations to the Bishop of Birmingham. His current work is to teach study days and residential courses, and to develop written and electronic resources. The Hudswell Hostel and new pilgrimage route

A new walker's and cyclist's hostel is being set up at the closed church of St Michael's Hudswell, on the route of a new piligrimage in the north of England.


Hear more about it from the Rt Revd Anna Eltringham, Bishop of Ripon; Martin Booth, Secretary of the Hudswell Community Charity; the Revd Martin Fletcher, Rector of the United Benefice of Richmond with Hudswell and Downholme and Marske; and Keith Taylor, who set up the Finchale Camino and is the one who proposed the new route as part of the the Finchale Camino.

Finance Officer - Bradford Cathedral

Bradford Cathedral is currently developing a new forward strategy, and looking ahead to 2025 when Bradford will be the UK City of Culture. The Finance Officer will provide support across a range of accounting and finance duties, including production of accurate management accounts, monitoring cash flow and supporting the budgeting process. This will allow the Director of Finance to support the Cathedral in delivering its new strategy. Additional capacity will also be required to comply with the requirements of the Charities Act as the Cathedral moves to becoming a registered charity under the Cathedrals Measure 2021.

Warden of Parcevall Hall - Diocese of Leeds

The Diocese of Leeds is looking for a Warden to run Parcevall Hall, a retreat and conference centre in the beautiful Skipton countryside. The Warden will manage the day-to-day running of the Hall, with overall responsibility for the financial management of the Hall and maintain high standards of housekeeping and catering tasks. The Warden will also be responsible for appointing and supervising a team of dedicated staff. There is a lot of scope within the role to use your creativity when planning and developing the programme for visiting groups, networking and starting up conversations, and finding solutions for everyday problems. Energetic and visible leadership, and fostering strong relationships with the local community, are key to achieving the Hall’s objectives and developing a culture based on the diocese’s Christian values of Loving, Living, Learning. Do you want to be part of growing youth congregations in a brand new project in Wakefield? We are looking for a highly motivated youth worker who will be well supported as they engage with young people through schools, detached and social action work- developing youth congregations and growing young people as Christian leaders.
