A warm diocesan welcome will be given to the new Bishop of Huddersfield at an upcoming service at Halifax Minster. The Rt Revd Smitha Prasadam, new Bishop of Huddersfield, will be welcomed on Saturday, September 2, at the Minster at a service at 11am. Read more here

Brave folk in Blubberhouses who worship outdoors throughout August were blessed with beautiful weather recently. St Andrew’s near Fewston Reservoir, which together with the community hosts the Nidd Art Trail, promotes Fresh Air Worship in summertime which rejoices in the artistry of nature. Read more here

How to compose the perfect compost, an expert talk on sustainable living and a children’s craft session based around St Francis of Assisi are all parts of a new Green Fair at one of our churches next month. The inaugural event takes place from 1pm-4pm at All Hallows Church, Bardsey on Saturday, September 9 and also features stalls, crafts, refreshments and an ice cream van! Read more here

The tireless efforts of Lay-Canon Arthur Mauya in nurturing our diocesan link with the Anglican Church in the Mara Region of Tanzania for 27 years will be praised at an official “thank you” next month. Arthur will be at the event at Christ the King, Battyeford at 4pm, Sunday, September 10 when the Rt Revd Tony Robinson, Bishop of Wakefield will offer great gratitude on behalf of all. Read more here

A youth pilgrimage to one of England’s holiest sites saw 13 youngsters from our diocese travel to Walsingham this month. St Mary’s South Elmsall, St Helen’s Hemsworth, Horbury Parish and Lundwood Parish, teamed up and took a group of 13 young people on a lively week of worship and teaching, plus a visit to the famous Holy House, sprinkling of Holy Water and walking the Holy Mile. Volunteers from across Wensley Deanery came together over the Bank Holiday weekend to bring The Church about the Dale to the Wensleydale Agricultural Show in Leyburn, in the Benefice of Leyburn and Bellerby. Members of congregations came together the night before to pray for all those organising and attending the show, and on the day, served nearly 1,500 cups of Fairtrade teas and coffees, juice and biscuits. A recent celebration of a meaningful link between two sister parishes – one in the Calder Valley and one in Tanzania – was full of prayer and personal reflections. St Mary’s, Luddenden, in the Diocese of Leeds has been linked with St Mary’s, Mmazame in the Diocese of Mara, Tanzania for more than 15 years and in marking its own patronal festival, the Luddenden congregation took the opportunity to commemorate their sister parish. Sex, death, war and Artificial Intelligence are on the menu at Food for Thought talks by a leading theologian to be held in one of our Dales churches starting in September. St Cuthbert’s, Pateley Bridge is the venue for the evening events led by Dr Peter Vardy, who has written extensively on religion and ethics and was vice-principal of Heythrop College, a Jesuit college in London, from 1999 to 2011. Stained Glass Summer continues across the diocese with the chance to learn about famous designer William Morris and his company’s 160-year-old creations at Bradford Cathedral. A special Heritage Open Day takes place on Saturday, September 9 when you are invited to discover the beautiful early stained glass of Morris & Co., located in four areas of the building, as well as other stunning works by other Victorian designers. As part of Creationtide the church is showing an art installation designed by Shaeron Caton-Rose. This is an opportunity to consider our part in the care of creation through hands-on creativity and environmental visuals, starting on Saturday 16th 2.30-4.30 with responsive craft activities, meditation and video artworks. This is a drop in to help make the installation, and/or join us from 7pm when we will take time to reflect on ecological issues through meditation and visual imagery. This is free entry and will have activities for all ages to take part in.

St George's Leeds
The conference jointly hosted by the Anglican Minority Ethnic Network (chair: the Rt Revd Smitha Prasadam, Bishop of Huddersfield) and USPG. We will be asking what 'living well' looks like for Christians. How to live well within oneself, the Church, and within our communities and wider society, drawing on Christ, our Living Well. Guest speakers will include the Rt Revd Arun Arora – Bishop of Kirkstall and co-chair of the Archbishops’ Anti-Racism Task Force, and Canon Sanjee Perera – Cognitive Psychologist and Ecclesiologist, Associate at Virginia Theological Seminary, and formerly Archbishops' Advisor on Minority Ethnic Affairs, Church of England. For the first time in the Ilkley Literature Festival's history, All Saints, Ilkley is sponsoring (as well as being the venue for) an event with a distinct Church focus. The Mission Support Lead will be an integral part of the children, youth and families team. As part of the team they will share the responsibility for the overall diocesan offer to parishes in their work with children, young people and families. We are looking for someone to join our Church Buildings and Pastoral Reorganisation team as a Church Buildings Support Officer. The Church Buildings Support Officer will provide direct buildings support to a focused group of churches, enabling their buildings to remain open and sustainable by providing a catalyst for "getting on top" of maintenance and improving facilities. This will enable churches to use their buildings for the wider benefit of the community as part of their holistic mission and will ensure the ongoing care and enhancement of these unique heritage assets.
