Services of joyful celebration were held at Bradford Cathedral as we ordained this year’s class of new deacons. Seventeen deacons were ordained across two services by the Bishop of Leeds, the Rt Revd Nick Baines, as they prepare to begin curacies in all five of our areas. Read more here

Faithful service and developed leadership were celebrated recently at an evening of joy and fun held for our Bradford Mission Apprentices, as the current cohort come to the end of their time with us. The current Bradford Mission Apprentices gathered with family and friends, their line managers, Learning Hub leaders and other Diocesan Interns at Fountains Church Bradford on Tuesday, June 20. Twenty-four deacons were ordained priests this weekend at services across the diocese. Services took place at Bradford Cathedral, Ripon Cathedral, Wakefield Cathedral, Huddersfield Parish Church and Leeds Minster, with all of our bishops getting involved. Read more here

As the crisis in Sudan continues, one of our Bradford area churches is holding a prayer vigil. St Peter’s Shipley will be hosting a Sudan prayer meeting on Wednesday, July 12 at 7.30pm. Read more here

Bumblebees were the most reported insect in England’s churchyards and burial grounds in this year's Churches Count on Nature survey. The results come from a recent nature-count conducted by local communities from June 3 to June 11. Read more here

|
Art in the Dale, the annual exhibition by Malhamdale artists, has now opened at St Michael the Archangel, Kirkby Malham. The 15th century parish church, known by locals as The Cathedral of the Dales, will host the work of 12 professional artists who live locally until Sunday, July 9 and includes painting, etching, collage, feltwork, stained glass, photography, wrought iron, and a light installation. One of our Bradford churches is helping their area be greener with their new eco garden. Denholme Shared Church recently officially opened their new Community Eco Garden. Read more here

Some 130 people recently gathered at Holy Trinity Knaresborough for the first ever ‘Worship Local’ event, drawing Christians in from across the town; some who already worship in Knaresborough but many who live in the town but worship elsewhere. The service aimed to gather people to celebrate Knaresborough and all the things God is doing in the community and to have an opportunity to connect with each other, perhaps for the first time. Freewheeling Revd Brian Greenfield of St Paul’s Shipley, will soon pedal off on a 100-mile sponsored bike ride in aid of the church’s Children and Youth Work. Revd Brian will ride along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal from Shipley to his place of birth – Maghull, Merseyside. Read more here

Are you interested in joining with others to journey together as we consider our Rhythm of Life venture and gather to deepen our sense of community and shared journey? The idea is to form a dispersed community for the Diocese of Leeds (centred at Ripon Cathedral) that comes together regularly to be refreshed, challenged, eat together and pray together and then sent back out to further God’s work in the communities of which we are a part, centred around the Rhythm of Life which began a few years ago. Wakefield Cathedral’s Canon Theologian, Dr Mark Oakley, has received a prestigious award from the Archbishop of Canterbury. Mark was at Lambeth Palace for a special ceremony to receive the Lanfranc Award for Education and Scholarship, which is one of the annual Lambeth Awards made to individuals by the Archbishop of Canterbury in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the Church of England, the Anglican Communion, and wider society. Pudsey Parish Church
The Rt Revd Arun Arora, Bishop of Kirkstall, and the Ven Paul Ayers, Archdeacon of Leeds, are inviting lay and clergy leaders from larger churches to a day led by the Ven Bob Jackson, church growth consultant, and a team from Leading your Church into Growth.
Other speakers include the Ven Rhiannon King, Archdeacon of Ipswich, and the Revd Canon Robin Gamble, Bishop’s Advisor for Church Growth. We have got a good number of people signed up but if you are still thinking about it we would love you to come. The recovery/moving forward of our larger churches is a vital part of the life of our diocese. This day will give us all a huge boost and open doors for our churches.

'A Walk Through Time' wedding dresses event

We have a selection of dresses from throughout the years up to the most recent times on display. An exhibition of dress and outfit designs by local school children will be on display within the church. There will be some thrifty ideas to save money and ways to make weddings more eco-friendly.

Now that the new king has been installed, The King's Men are returning to All Saints Church, Kirkby Overblow after an absence of 4 years. There will be a new set of choral scholars but the music is sure to be as inspiring as ever. Tickets can be booked online by emailing [email protected] and requesting the number required. There will be a bar on the night for the purchase of wine, beer, soft drinks as well as tea and coffee.

We have launched a new midweek family based service called ‘Bramley’s Families’ with about 15 families engaging each week. We are continuing to build connections with the Bramley St Peter’s Primary School and are building connections with the community through regular family based ‘pop-up’ events. We would like to appoint someone to deepen our focus on children and young families as we live out our vision of ‘revealing God’s love in Bramley.’ Find out more about this role here

Safeguarding is an integral part of the mission and ministry of the Diocese of Leeds and we believe everyone involved in church activities has a role to play as we deliver our commitment to creating a safer culture and a responsive service for all. Being educated to degree level or equivalent, with a relevant professional qualification, the successful applicant will need to ensure the provision of safeguarding advice and guidance to the Bishop of Leeds, his leadership team and parishes whilst reviewing and developing diocesan policy, procedures and good practice guidelines.
