The new Bishop of Huddersfield, the Rt Revd Smitha Prasadam, was welcomed to the diocese and the Huddersfield area at a service at Halifax Minster. On Saturday, September 2, the Bishop of Leeds, the Rt Revd Nick Baines, led a service of inauguration of Bishop Smitha’s ministry at the Minster. Read more here

How we can care for and use our churchyards and green spaces effectively is the topic of an upcoming one day conference hosted by the Diocese of Leeds and Ecclesiastical. The conference will be on Wednesday, October 4, the feast day of St Francis of Assisi and the end of the Season of Creation. Read more here

PCCs from churches across the Diocese are encouraged to carry out a Generous Church Check Up to mark Generosity Week, which runs from Sunday September 24 to Sunday, October 1. The Generous Church Check Up is a simple task that will help PCC members to talk about and explore how to encourage giving and generosity in churches and the wider community. Read more here

A wormery, a woodturner and organic wines were among the stalls at a Community Green Fair that brought some 300 people to one of our churches on Saturday. All Hallows, Bardsey aimed to bring people together to share ideas on how to live more sustainably at the afternoon event in its churchyard, with 17 stallholders from around Leeds bringing ideas on how to be more ‘green’. One of our Wakefield churches has been celebrating this summer, marking major milestones and sending people back to school in style. The congregation of All Saints' Church in Crofton, along with people and groups from around the parish, worked together to produce a tapestry which celebrates the life of the community in the year of the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. How we can spot and support those affected by modern slavery is the subject of an upcoming workshop. Wellsprings Together is working with The Clewer Initiative to run a workshop for all to learn more about modern slavery, about spotting the signs, and about the options that victims have. Read more here

A brand new choral work is getting its world premiere at one of our Ripon area churches. North Yorkshire-based consort Jervaulx Singers have commissioned a choral song cycle for eight voices and piano from creative duo Murphy & Attridge (composer Lewis Murphy and writer Laura Attridge). Read more here

The Stewardship team will be hosting another Digital Clinic this month. You can either attend in person or arrange a Zoom call. Parking is available on site but is limited but other parking is available nearby. At the clinic you can seek advice on buying a contactless device for your church, how to set one up, discuss issues you are having with your current device or find out how to set up an online giving page. The clinic will run on an appointment only basis so that you can receive one to one support. Holy Trinity Boar Lane is a church with a midweek ministry to workers in the centre of Leeds. Starting on October 2nd we will be running the prayer course which is an eight week course designed to equip and enable followers of Jesus to go deeper in their prayer life. This day is aimed particularly at clergy and lay leaders in smaller local churches (typically 15-55 worshipers on a regular Sunday). In addition to plenty of space for prayer and reflection, there will also be an opportunity to hear more about ReSource’s ministry including information about the expansion of our Alongside Scheme which supports clergy and lay leaders with a prayerful Companion. Concordiamici is a group of friends, of all denominations and none, from many walks of life. They come from all over the north of England and are united by their love of singing sacred music. Each year they sing evensong times in different locations.

Holy Trinity, Skipton

Professor Chris Southgate, Exeter University, will be preaching on the topic of 'Sabbath, Psalms and Eucharist' at the 9.45am service of Holy Communion at Holy Trinity on Sunday 1st October. At 7pm, he will lead a poetry reading, 'Rain falling by the River, poems of faith, love and grief'. Chris Southgate is based on the edge of Dartmoor, Devon, England. He works at the University of Exeter as a Professor in Theology. His main fields of study are the science-religion debate, ecotheology and environmental ethics.

Wakefield Cathedral

Generosity Week in the Diocese of Leeds runs from Sunday, September 24 until Sunday, October 1. Hear from the Rt Revd Nick Baines, Bishop of Leeds, about the generosity of God and why we give, what's going on, and how churches can engage.

We are seeking a Data Manager to gather and utilise data in support of our Barnabas project. The Data Manager will work alongside the Strategic Portfolio Manager and the SDF Project Support Officer. They will have the opportunity to work alongside senior staff, project leaders, parish representatives, and church teams to ensure that data is gathered, analysed, and embedded to assist the progression of projects. They will play a key role in developing new ways to view, track, analyse, and use datasets to monitor and feed into projects, and act as a point of reference across teams for the strategic programmes.
