The Diocese of Leeds is pleased to announce it will be holding its first ever Diocesan Generosity Week this month.

From September 26 to October 3, churches and individuals are encouraged to explore God’s generosity through eight days of service and worship materials. 

For members of our worshipping communities and beyond, the diocese will be broadcasting a range of Facebook Live events, webinars, and social media posts to enable folk to join in across the diocese. A full timetable of events can be found below.

News
The Diocese of Leeds is pleased to share its toolkit for churches as part of its strategy for achieving carbon net zero by 2030: Saving Creation. The toolkit invites churches to start on the pathway to carbon net zero by taking six steps towards the goal. Find out more here
Pope Francis, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the Archbishop of Canterbury have joined together for the first time in an urgent appeal for the future of the planet. The leaders of the Roman Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church and the Anglican Communion have jointly warned of the urgency of environmental sustainability. Find out more here
A Church of England Governance Review working group, led by Bishop Nick and established by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to explore options for simpler and more effective governance, has recommended changes to the Church’s national governance structures. Find out more here
This week the diocese welcomed the Young Christian Climate Network 'Relay to COP26', with events planned to take place in Leeds and Ripon in the days to come. Travelling from Cornwall to Glasgow, the relay aims to raise awareness of the climate emergency. Follow their journey here on Twitter.
The Mothers’ Union in the Diocese of Leeds is looking for children in our diocese to design a Christmas card. Every year they send every person in prison a Christmas card signed by Mothers’ Union members, and another blank card for prisoners to send to their loved ones. Find out more here
A new course from the Diocese of Leeds aims to help churches think more about caring for creation, as the world looks to increase action tackling climate change. The Creation Salvation course is designed for anyone in parish ministry who would like to see creation care embedded in the life of their church. Find out more here
The Rt Revd Jonathan Gibbs, Bishop of Huddersfield, has provided a sermon for churches across to use as part of this year’s Safeguarding Sunday. Bishop Jonathan, who is also the Church of England’s lead safeguarding bishop, has provided the sermon as part of the Church of England’s support for Safeguarding Sunday on October 10. Find out more here
The Wakefield Area Office are moving to new premises after the sale of Church House at the end of South Parade. Originally acquired as a gift by the Church of England from Miss Mary Thompson in the early 1920's, the grade two listed property has served as diocesan offices for a number of decades. To mark the Jewish celebration of Rosh Hashanah, our six bishops have sent their greetings in a message to our Jewish friends. The marking of their religious New Year involves the traditional eating of treats such as apples dipped in honey, hoping to prompt a sweet and happy year ahead. Find out more here

Living and Learning Online
On Tuesday, September 21 at 7pm an opportunity to share resources which might support sessions with 5-11s aged children during the autumn, including All Saints, All Souls, Halloween, Remembrance, World Mental Health Day and others. Follow this link to find out more and book a place.
A day course on Wednesday, September 22 for those wishing to consider the impact of trauma from Covid-19. It will be lead by our Lay Training Team. Find out more and how to register a place here.
From the Diocesan Advisory Committee, this webinar on Monday, September 28 at 2pm aims to show you how you can show generosity to your communities by making your building a place of welcome. Hints and tips will be shared and you will go away with lots of ideas. Register a place here.
In this hour long webinar on Monday, September 27 at 3.30pm the Stewardship and Income Generation Team we will show you the benefits of the PGS for you and your faith. Register a place here.
On Tuesday, September 28 at 7pm the Communications and Stewardship teams will explain all you need to know to get online giving and digital giving going in your church! Please reserve your place by emailing [email protected] and stating your name and church/parish.
A 90 minute online course on Wednesday, September 29 at 7pm to help you learn about disabilities and how we can all be more inclusive in our churches. It will look at definitions and models of disability, theology, practical tips, and how to help people with invisible disabilities. Booking is essential and can be done here.
Whether you are starting from scratch, looking to recruit more members or just build each other up, this event on Thursday, September 30 at 7pm aims to help you build a team for ministry with children and young people. To book please email [email protected].
On Thursday, September 30 at 7.30pm the diocesan Environment Team will show you how you can show love and generosity to your neighbour by combating climate change. It will also offer an introduction to the carbon neutral toolkit. Find out more here.
This is an opportunity to participate in a quiet day of prayer on Saturday, October 16 using the colours of the rainbow to reflect upon our relationships: with God, with others and with the environment. The day will take place using the online Zoom platform and will include input, personal reflection time away from the screen and the invitation to share in small groups. Find out more here.

Events across the diocese
An opportunity on Friday, September 17 at 4.30pm for people from across Leeds to gather publicly in City Square to pray into the climate emergency, during the build up to the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow. Find out more here
Ripon Cathedral are running a Living in Love and Faith course that sets out to inspire us to think more deeply about what it means to be human and to live in love and faith with each other in the Church. There will be eight sessions on Monday evenings, 7pm-9pm from September 20 to November 22. To book ring Victoria Richardson on 01765 603462 or email: [email protected].
The Cream of Yorkshire will highlight some of the significant and little-known people connected with Bradford Cathedral and the city of Bradford's past. An online taster session on Thursday, September 23 for Carbon Conversation groups running at St Matts Burley this autumn. Carbon Conversations groups help people face their complicated reactions and start to take more action to tackle climate change over a series of 6 meetings. Find out more here
On Saturday, September 25 at 10am Archbishop Stephen Cottrell will be delivering a lecture at St Mark's Church in Harrogate. Arranged by the Harrogate School of Theology & Mission, attendance can either be in person or via Zoom. Find out more here
Do you have young people in your church involved in tech or within the community? Would they like to achieve a nationally recognised leadership qualification whilst volunteering for church?
