Bishop Arun Arora has spoken plainly and powerfully on the real life dangers of inflammatory language at a special service to mark Racial Justice Sunday. Preaching at Blackburn Cathedral, the Bishop of Kirkstall examined how misplaced notions of patriotism, combined with reckless political rhetoric, can result in racist outpourings. Read more here
A second Prayer Vigil for Peace in Ukraine will be held at Bradford Cathedral on Friday, February 24, from 6pm - 7pm. The hour-long service will include lament for the impact of the war, prayer for peace in Ukraine, and a celebration of Ukrainian identity. Read more here
Team Leeds was out in full force at the most recent General Synod, helping to shape the debate around big issues in the life of the Church of England today. The meeting of Synod, the Church of England’s national assembly, took place in London between Monday, February 6 and Thursday, February 9. Read more here
The Church of England’s General Synod has welcomed proposals which would enable same-sex couples to come to church after a civil marriage or civil partnership to give thanks, dedicate their relationship to God and receive God’s blessing. Synod members also voted to “lament and repent” of the failure of the Church to welcome LGBTQI+ people. Read more here
This year, those involved with children and youth ministry across the diocese are invited to TEND, one-day conferences designed to thank, encourage and equip. Attendees will have the option to book onto one of three dates, each hosted at one of our three cathedrals in Bradford, Ripon and Wakefield. Eating together is an important part of building Christian relationships, and one of our Huddersfield churches has been using this to help deepen links with their sister church in Tanzania. St Mary’s Luddenden and St Mary’s Mmazame have organised joint parish breakfasts on the second Sunday of each month. Read more here
A packed Bradford Cathedral celebrated Candles in the Dark, a diocesan event focussing on evangelism and church growth. Those in attendance heard encouraging interviews from Ashley Evans and the United Reform Church, Hannah Lievesley and her work in Far Headingley and Bishop Toby about his vision for the church in the Bradford. Faith leaders, public sector representative and more gathered recently at Fountains Church Bradford for a morning of conversations and learning about developing partnerships across the Bradford area. The morning brought together clergy and licensed lay ministers with other faith leaders, and representatives from the local council, police, NHS and more. Read more here
A range of Honorary Canons have been installed at Ripon Cathedral in recognition of their service and dedication to the diocese. Statutes provide for a variety of canons to be appointed to work with the Dean to enable the catheral to fulfil its calling as a centre for mission for the Diocese of Leeds, together with its partner cathedrals, Wakefield and Bradford. Read more here
One of our Ripon churches has been celebrating the generosity of their congregation, which has allowed them to repair their organ. The successful repair of the organ in the Upper Wharfedale and Littondale benefice was thanks to a Generosity Week held last year, using resources from the Church of England. Read more here
Church volunteers aged between 18 and 80+ are Festival Angels who enjoy serving young people and staff at the Leeds Festival each August Bank Holiday. They provide hot drinks and a welcome space, reunite folk with lost property and are around as a caring & helping hand.

This three part course aims to equip Christians to feel more confident about their own faith story, as they consider what God has done for them, and learn how to share it. Find out more and reserve a place here

Our established Discovery Course aims to help you discover how and where God is calling you to serve others. It will be held at The Trinity Centre, John Escritt Road, Bingley, BD16 2ST. Find out more and reserve a place here
20th, 21st and 27th March
The ‘Being With’ course is excellent for enquirers. Over ten weeks the course focuses on the experience of being in community as we explore Christian faith together. A ‘taster’ three session course is planned for March 2023, so you can see how the course runs and whether it will suit your context. Find out more here
A time to pause and reflect on the rhythms of our lives. Each retreat will be led/hosted by one of our Area Bishops or Cathedral Deans. Further details and booking information can be found here.

St Hild are offering a 10-week Online Short Course on Christian Doctrine for the summer term. One of our Ripon area churches is looking to reduce their emissions and keep people warm, and is sharing their findings with the diocese. St Mary’s Embsay with Eastby is organising an open morning for visitors from other churches across the diocese. Find out more here

Journeys is new resource from The Clewer Initiative designed to equip and inspire people in the fight against modern slavery. Journeys consists of five mini films and two accompanying resources – one for Lent and one that is suitable for anyone, at any time of year. Find out more here
