As the Season of Creation 2022 begins, the Diocese of Leeds is pleased to share new reflections for churches to use in their responses to the season. The Season of Creation runs from Thursday, September 1, to Tuesday, October 4, the feast day of St Francis of Assisi, and is a time for churches across the world to think and pray about how we can better care for God’s creation. The Diocese of Leeds is encouraging churches to help shape the future of heritage in the UK, by responding to a Heritage Lottery Fund Survey. The survey aims to gather views from people across the country, and given the large number of churches that are listed buildings, we are encouraging our parishes to take part. Find out more here

Congratulations to one of our Leeds curates who has beat the bounds of his parish, successfully completing a 21km walk whilst praying for the people and places of the region. Setting off in the early morning rain the Revd Chris Balding was joined on his walk of the parish boundary by neighbouring vicars, parishioners and friends. Find out more here

'Beside the Lake', an open-air service of thanksgiving, returned to the beach of Semerwater in Raydale on Bank Holiday Sunday. Accompanied by Hawes Silver Band, the theme of ‘Joy and Hope in Jesus Christ’ was shared with the crowd who gathered on land and on the water in the Wensleydale scenery. Find out more here

Women in Huddersfield will have the opportunity to swap clothes and accessories, and share supper together, at an upcoming event at Holy Trinity Huddersfield. The Swap Shop and Supper aims to give women the opportunity to sort out new outfits in an environmentally friendly way, by swapping clothes and other items at a social event with a shared meal. Green Journey is offering helpful advice and guidance to churches as energy prices rise in their latest newsletter. The newest issue provides an update on current market conditions, alongside advice to our churches, energy saving tips to help keep church bills down, and relevant industry and environment news. A sponsored walk to raise money for much needed window repairs is being undertaken throughout the month of September by one of our Leeds clergy. For thirty days the Revd Sharon Wilkinson will walk 19, 000 steps around her parish each day, praying for the streets as she goes. Find out more here

Creativity and culture have been shared with the residents of Blubberhouses, thanks to an art trail that filled the local church. Photographers, a potter, woodworkers, and an author shared their works in St Andrew’s Blubberhouses during August, and a new bench is to be put in celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. One of our Bradford area churches has been helping people get away this summer without needing to go anywhere, thanks to their Holidays at Home program. St Stephen’s Steeton with Eastburn recently hosted a Scottish themed holiday event in their church hall for people in their area to get a taste of the country without needing to leave their village. One of our clergy has helped deliver a £450,000 legacy to the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) on behalf of a long-standing friend. The donation from Doreen Gough from Gipton in Leeds will benefit RNIB’s Talking Books service and the money was presented to the charity at its Talking Books recording studio by Revd Diane Lofthouse. While many good enquirers courses focus on new information about Christ (the head) or new feelings of Christ (the heart) or even new practices of Christ (the hands), this course focusses on a lived encounter of Christ (the gut). It is an immersive, improvised enactment of its theology. Find out more here

Leeds School of Theology are pleased and excited to partner with Lighthouse West Yorkshire in facilitating a dynamic learning community which will serve Christians already working alongside the marginalised or who have a heart to pioneer in this area. Find out more here

Starting Monday, October 3 |
Through a mixture of live lectures, discussion groups and assigned homework, this course will focus on a Christlike and prophetic response to the interrelated issues of climate breakdown, violence and conflict and racial injustice. The course is a partnership between Leeds School of Theology and Lighthouse West Yorkshire. Find out more here

Wellsprings Together is teaming up with the Church Urban Fund to deliver a lively introduction to the ‘Growing Good’ workshops. The Growing Good Toolkit is a free six session course helping churches explore the connection between social action, discipleship and growth. Bolton Priory is hosting a touring piece of artwork by Luke Jerram consisting of a large moon measuring seven metres in diameter.
