Twenty men and women have begun ministry as deacons in parish churches across the diocese following two joyful ordination services at Ripon Cathedral. The Bishop of Leeds, the Rt Revd Nick Baines carried out both services, which were held on Saturday, July 3. Read more here
The Diocese is pleased to welcome many new priests, with ordination services taking place across the whole diocese in June. The new priests were ordained as such after being ordained deacons last year, in services taking place at Leeds Minster, Bradford Cathedral, Wakefield Cathedral, Huddersfield Parish Church and St John’s Bilton. How Minecraft can be used to explore faith will be the topic of an upcoming showcase from the diocese’s Children, Young People and Families Team. Working with Missional Generation, a charity supporting youth leaders in the region, the diocesan team are inviting leaders and parents to explore what Minecraft is and how it can help look at Christianity in a new way. Following the ordination of thirteen new priests across our diocese, some presided over a church service for the first time as priests. One of those was the Revd June Cockburn who was ordained priest at Leeds Minster and presided in the open air at Upper Armley, where she will be serving as curate. Read more here
How to present yourself well in front of camera and different ways in which Online Church is manifesting itself, was the focus of a recent webinar. Organised by the Diocese of Leeds Communications Team, the session was lead by Robin Gamble, the Bishop's Advisor for Church Growth, and Claire Corley, vicar at the parish of Wortley and Farnley. Read more here
Six members of the Mother's Union in Huddersfield have completed a walking challenge to raise money for the work of the Mother's Union worldwide. The intrepid members set out at the end of June to undertake the circular walk, which took them along the Huddersfield Greenway and the Huddersfield Broad Canal. Read more here

Living and Learning Online
Running from 10am to 3pm on Wednesday, July 14 this is a day course, for those wishing to consider the impact of trauma from Covid-19. It will be lead by our Lay Training Team and is aimed at individuals who want to better understand the way the pandemic has impacted them, as well as those still feeling resilient wishing to lead others out of the pandemic well. A webinar for congregations to hear how gifts in wills can transform ministry and mission in church. Taking place on Wednesday, July 14 at 6pm, the session will be run by Stewardship Officers Becky Nicholson and Dan Langdon-Griffiths and they'll be joined by guest speakers from Otley All Saints and Knottingley St Botolph. Taking place on Thursday, July 15 at 7pm this session will look at the very real missional opportunities intentional work with Toddler groups give. Events across the diocese
Dean of Bradford, the Very Revd Jerry Lepine, will preside and preach at his final service, followed by a presentation. You will be able to stream the service live via the Bradford Cathedral YouTube channel here.
A stunning collection of 50 wedding gowns and accessories will be exhibited in Ripon Cathedral between June 23 and September 19 (extended date from 21 August) for visitors to come along and enjoy. Find out more here

A one-off event to gather on the Cliff College site to worship, learn, relax and celebrate together. A new resource pack to help churches better support people with disabilities has recently been produced by the diocese and churches across the British Isles. Called ‘A Welcoming Church’, it has been produced by the Diocese of Leeds in collaboration with Dublin and Glendalough Youth Officer Susie Keegan, and The Church of Ireland Youth Department. Living in Love and Faith, The Church of England’s landmark set of resources on questions of identity and which draws together the Bible, theology, science and history with powerful real-life stories has now been published. The product of three years’ work includes a 480-page book, a series of films and podcasts, a course and an online library of other publications. Find more here
