News
The Diocese of Leeds is pleased to announce it will be holding its first ever Diocesan Generosity Week this September. From September 26 to October 3, churches and individuals are encouraged to explore God’s generosity through eight days of service and worship materials. Read more here
High-flying Holbeck vicar Alistair Kaye has taken to the skies to help raise cash for a Leeds-based Christian charity that works with young people in challenging circumstances. Revd Alistair of St Luke the Evangelist did a tandem sky-dive in aid of Reestablish and the total raised so far is more than £2,500. Find out more here
The Mothers’ Union in the Diocese of Leeds has been supporting arriving Afghan refugees in Manchester by helping to provide toys and coats for families. Mothers’ Union President Jean Thurman has provided a report which can be accessed here.
One hundred churches across the Diocese of Leeds have now signed up for the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS), as it prepares for this year’s Diocesan Generosity Week at the end of September. The parish of St Mary’s Horbury Junction registered for the PGS recently, joining 99 other churches in our diocese to do so. Find out more here.
Promoting the power of prayer is the key task of the diocese’s new Co-ordinator of Prayer and Spirituality, Revd Henriette Howarth. One of our priests from the Leeds area has been part of the launch of a new national support network for clergy and ordinands of Chinese heritage. The Revd Dave Young (Chinese name: 何銘麟 Ho Ming Lun), vicar of St Barnabas’ Alwoodley and St Paul’s Shadwell, took part in the launch of The Teahouse in London. Read more here
The Diocese of Leeds is looking to recruit a new member to our Children, Young People and Families Team, as one member prepares to retire. Anne Carter, Children Lead in the Team, will be retiring in September, and the Team wishes her all the best. Find out more here
The relationship between science and faith will be explored at St Catherine’s Church Centre in Wakefield as part of a project that's been awarded nearly £20,000. This funding, which came through the church engagement programme Scientists in Congregations, will be used to fund a new project called ‘Believing Science’. Read more here
Sixteen months after the last Artspace exhibition, art is returning to Bradford Cathedral this autumn with Aire Valley Arts’ new exhibition, ‘Unfolding’. The pieces, created by the collective, will be displayed in a brand-new exhibition which will be held between the Cathedral and the Kala Sangam Arts Centre. St Helen’s Denton will be celebrating the art of stained glass by hosting a traveling art exhibition this September. The Teithiau exhibition is an ongoing collaboration with several stained glass creative artists on the theme of Journeys. The original exhibition was planned for July 2020 in All Saints Church Weston, but COVID-19 prevented this. Read more here

Living and Learning Online
As part of a mini-series (Climate Change – Theology, Ministry and Action), this session is intended to help resource this in our theological thinking, in our worship and preaching, and in our action. Taking place on Tuesday, September 7 at 4pm it is designed for Clergy and Readers, but open to anyone in church leadership. Find out more here
Building a Wordpress website
On Tuesday, September 14 from 7pm - 9pm we will learn how to design and create a Wordpress website for a church. This session is for any church or parish wanting to build their own website simply and cheaply, but may not already have the know how. There is no need for pre-website building experience. On Tuesday, September 14 we are inviting youth leaders, children leaders and parents to explore what Minecraft is and how it can be utilised for faith exploration. Starting at 7.30pm it will be hosted by the Children, Young People and Families Team and led by Ben Jones from Missional Generation. Find out more here
On Thursday, September 16 at 7pm a fun and interactive 90 minute online course to learn about the diversity in spiritual and learning styles so that we can help everyone to access worship in ways that work for them. Booking is essential and can be done here.
Do you have young people in your church involved in tech or within the community? Would they like to achieve a nationally recognised leadership qualification whilst volunteering for church? Would they like to represent the Diocese internationally? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, come along to an online information event on Tuesday, September 28 at 1.15pm or 7.15pm. 
The Sanctuary Mental Health Course, running over eight evenings from Tuesday, September 28 2021, offers communities a base of shared knowledge and the opportunity to discover a common language for talking about mental health. Find out more here
Leeds School of Theology have three courses stating soon: Foundations in Christian Theology, Mission, Theology & Ministry for the Margins and Justice, Peace & Reconciliation. All three are open to all and available on Zoom. The next intake is in September/October. Find out more here

Events across the diocese
Generosity Week is coming to the Diocese of Leeds this autumn, helping us all to celebrate the generous love of God. Running from September 26 through to October 3, churches are invited to hold services, run group sessions, broadcast podcasts, and distribute readings on the theme of generosity to their communities. On Saturday, September 4 the Community of the Resurrection are holding a charity auction at 1.30pm. All of the money raised will go towards bringing hope to young people in Zimbabwe. Items featuring in the auction include a Thompson standard lamp and paintings of Yorkminster. Find out more here
On Sunday, September 5 at 2.30pm in Hutton Magna Village Hall a talk and slideshow on the the history of Hutton Magna including the church by Marian Lewis. Admission is free, there is no need to book and there will be tea and cake provided. For more information please call Marian, one of the church wardens, on 01833 627281.
All Hallow's Church in Kirkburton are hosting a Heritage Day on Saturday, September 11 from 10am to 4pm. It will include a host of activities including information about the Burial Ground Project, tours of the bell tower, a photo-quiz, live music and the chance to adopt-a-grave. Find out more here
An opportunity on Friday, September 17 at 4.30pm for people from across Leeds to gather publicly in City Square to pray into the climate emergency, during the build up to the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow. Find out more here
Resources
A new resource pack to help churches better support people with disabilities has recently been produced by the diocese and churches across the British Isles. Called ‘A Welcoming Church’, it has been produced by the Diocese of Leeds in collaboration with Dublin and Glendalough Youth Officer Susie Keegan, and The Church of Ireland Youth Department. Living in Love and Faith, The Church of England’s landmark set of resources on questions of identity and which draws together the Bible, theology, science and history with powerful real-life stories has now been published. The product of three years’ work includes a 480-page book, a series of films and podcasts, a course and an online library of other publications. Find more here
