August ends with a smash!

School is now in full swing and fall sports have started for many. At the Hegwood house, we ended the month with a smash and bang. Our neighborhood was hit by a storm that took down some trees. Fortunately, no one was hurt and it was mainly an inconvenience with a lot of clean up.

What I didn't realize is how much we "rely" on the internet now. But, do we really "rely" on the Internet or is it a major convenience? To my daughter, she relies on it to do homework and stream music. We also use it for email, TV, and web search. In some ways, our modern lives do rely on the Internet. Is this good or bad? Is modern communication and the Internet necessary for our business? In today's world, I would say most definitely yes. Below are some articles on Internet connectivity that can assist our customers and how Hegwood Electric has been using these tools.

Also below, we'll introduce you to Taylor Yost, our newest Hegwood Electric employee.

Inside Machines: Essential technology developments within...

This article from Control Engineering by Greg Brown lists five (5) heterogeneous architecture examples for different processing engines that can optimize smart machine control which includes IoT (Internet of Things).
  • CPUs with digital signal processors (DSPs)
  • CPUs with a general-purpose graphics processing unit (GPGPU)-a GPU can be used for more than rendering as it can be programmed to do algorithmic processing by an end user
  • CPUs, DSPs, and GPGPUs
  • CPUs with field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs)
  • Application-specific IP blocks implemented on/in any of the above.
For years, our experienced engineering team has been using Internet connectivity to assist our customers. Ask us how we can help you.

Meet Taylor Yost

Taylor came to us through our other fabricators, Melvin and Dean.  A native of Norcross, Taylor completed a 4 year program with the IEC and is very enthusiastic about the Industrial Automation and Controls industry.  He has jumped straight in to our weekly classes and is quickly learning control panel fabrication.

Welcome to the family Taylor!

I'll end this newsletter with a few Internet quotes:

We can't ever forget that the Internet now is just a staid utility. The exciting platforms are software applications that are very, very simple.
- Mark Cuban

Industrial companies are in the information business whether they want to be or not.
Jeff Immelt

Digital is the main reason just over half of the companies on the Fortune 500 have disappered since the year 2000.
- Pierre Nanterne

I hope you have found this newsletter informative and entertaining. If you have any interest in our products or Hegwood Electric services, please let us know.
