A Note from our Executive Director

I am often asked how our organization is funded. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, so we rely entirely on public donations. A few years ago, our funding was primarily through special event fundraisers and income generated from Music Connection's instrument rentals. As we started to focus on growth in 2013-2014, our instrument rentals and loans to low income students has risen from 14% to 71%. As you may expect, this mission-minded focus resulted in two things: an increase in instrument inventory because we had priced instruments at an accessible rate ($0-$10 a month) and at the same time, a decrease in rental income. Our program partners, Napa Valley Community Foundation, Community Projects, Notes for Education and Festival Napa Valley all stepped in to help with our gap and join us on our mission to give an instrument to every student who wants one, regardless of their ability to pay.

Today, we boast a "diversified funding portfolio", meaning we have an array of funding sources that make us more sustainable than ever. Our programs are funded primarily through fundraising events and program grants. In fact, $966,203 of our $1.2 million budget was raised last year in these two categories. Our program grants include funding through Napa County Health & Human Services, Festival Napa Valley, Napa Valley Community Foundation, Community Projects, Napa Valley Vintners, and many more generous local partners. Our events include our Taste for Knowledge gala (March 28, 2020) and our Napa Valley BBQ & Beer Battle (October 20, 2019). Businesses, agencies and individuals across the valley join us annually in support of students and teachers. Join us at one of our events, or visit  nvef.org  to learn more about other ways to give.
In appreciation,
Jennifer Stewart, MPA

Business Partner Testimonial:
Redwood Credit Union
"Redwood Credit Union (RCU) deeply appreciates how the Napa Valley Education Foundation supports the health and well-being of Napa Valley schoolchildren through on-campus Wellness Centers. This innovative and student-centered model of providing care and support has demonstrated significant positive impact on absenteeism, academic performance and emotional/behavioral issues. Redwood Credit Union’s partnership with Napa Valley Education Foundation began after the 2017 fires with a grant to provide services to students experiencing stress and trauma.

RCU has continued the partnership because ongoing student success is directly linked to access to resources like the services provided at the Wellness Centers. Supporting local education is one of Redwood Credit Union’s strategic grant-making priorities and one of the most important investments that can be made in any community. Matt Martin, Senior Vice President of Community and Government Relations says, of the Wellness Centers, “It’s a service that speaks to RCU’s mission, vision, and values and addresses needs. We’re proud to be a partner of NVEF."

Founded in 1950, Redwood Credit Union is a full-service financial institution providing personal and business banking to individuals and businesses in Napa and throughout the North Bay and San Francisco."
