A Note from our Executive Director
School is back in swing so it must be that time of year again. It's time to award our Spencer Colton Gold Star Teacher grants. In 1983, our foundation was created to support classroom learning by providing mini-grants to teachers. Looking back through our 36 years of grant awards, it's interesting to see that while some things change (we just don't get many requests anymore for floppy disks!), many things do remain the same. Our teachers still have brilliant ideas and still need our extra financial support to make them happen. We have funded gardens, murals, pig dissections, guest speakers, and so much more.
Our grant donors support innovative teaching that leads to improved student learning. Over the years, our grants have topped $1.3 million and what a very special honor to read the applications, visit the classrooms and know that our community's children are in such engaging classroom environments!
Would you like to donate to this year's Teacher Grant program? It's not too late! Donate here:

The Music Connection: Rental Week
|
|
After a summer spent testing, repairing and cleaning our musical instrument inventory, our Music Connection program now has bare shelves and 464 new musicians have instruments in their hands.
Over the last few weeks, The Music Connection and our amazing staff have provided 464 instruments to NVUSD music students, totaling more than 900 (continuing and new) students with instruments this year! 71% of these students qualify for a reduced rental rate, or loaned instrument. With help from the NVUSD Elementary Music Team, our Rental Week is a huge undertaking, but one of the best weeks of our year. The NVUSD Education Center halls were filled with the sounds of young new musicians making the first sound on their instrument and it was truly a great thing to witness.
You can support this program by attending the
9th annual Napa Valley BBQ and Beer Battle
on October 20, 2019 at Vista Collina Resort. Proceeds from this event benefit our Music Connection program directly, allowing us to provide even more instruments, after school instruction, music festival days and summer music camps to NVUSD students.
