Three Ridgecroft Families Win Monsanto Grant
Local farming families and current Ridgecroft parents: Trey & Harriet Byrum, Bundy & Marinda Lane and Lloyd & Anna Winslow, each directed $2,500 to Ridgecroft School through America's Farmers Grow Communities, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer.  Celebrating its 10 th   year, America's Farmers Grow Communities partners with farmers to support nonprofit organizations strengthening rural communities. The program offers farmers the chance to direct a $2,500 donation to a nonprofit of their choice. It has awarded more than $33 million to over 8,000 nonprofits across rural America since its inception.

"Ridgecroft will use the funds to support fine arts, the media center, technology, athletics and much more. All of our students and teachers will be the direct beneficiaries of these funds," said Claire Abshire, Director of Development & Marketing at Ridgecroft School.

Thank you for choosing to support Ridgecroft School!

A Night in Paris...
Prom 2019 is in the books!  A special thank you to the Junior Class and  Mr. Tim & Mrs. Sandra Newsome for their hard work and the many hours they dedicated to planning this year's prom. "A Night in Paris" was absolutely beautiful and we enjoyed seeing all the lovely couples. Also, PTO sponsored the annual "Father Daughter Dance" on Saturday night and the girls were able to enjoy the prom decorations with fun music too!

Social Media, Bullying & Internet Use Presentation
We hosted a Social Media, Bullying & Internet Use presentation for 3rd-12th grade students and invited parents to an afternoon session to hear from Dr. Elizabeth Marsal and Chris Lusby. Wonderful information was shared!

Dr. Elizabeth S.  Marsal  holds a PhD from Walden University, Master of Social Work from East Carolina University and Bachelor Degree in Social Work from Meredith College. Her research interest have focused on juvenile delinquents, gangs, chemical dependency and at risk youth.  As the mom of an 11 year old, her interest has shifted to staying informed about the cyber threats that youth face each day while online gaming, chatting, and surfing.  She has conducted numerous workshops on staying safe while online for both children and adults.

Chris Lusby is a member of NC Wesleyan's Criminal Justice Faculty as well as an actively practicing North Carolina Attorney. Prior to Chris becoming an attorney he was a police officer for nearly 7 years with the Wilson Police Department. However, before Chris began his career in law Chris was an entrepreneur who opened several businesses before changing his career path to focus on law and legal issues.

Alumni Spotlight on Katie Genao
What year did you graduate Ridgecroft?
2004

What is your favorite Ridgecroft memory?
My senior prom! It was the only one I attended. It was magical, everything you think Prom night should be.

What did you do after graduating from Ridgecroft?
After high school, I took a few classes at Pitt Community College and then as soon as I was old enough, I applied to the North Carolina Highway Patrol and attended the 123rd basic Highway Patrol School from April 2008-October 2008.

What do you do now?
We live in Ahoskie. I was able to come back to Hertford County as soon as I graduated school. I currently work out of Greenville for the Motor Carrier Division of the Highway Patrol, but my area is large so I am all over the eastern part of the state most of the week. I'm married to Angel, who's a Sergeant with the North Carolina Highway Patrol. He's stationed in Halifax County. We have 1 daughter, Camila (Mili), who is in Kindergarten - class of 2031! (Pictured above with the entrance circle named for her - Katie & Angel bought it at last year's auction!)

Around Campus
Third grade worked very hard on their Solar System play! Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came to watch.
Third, fourth and fifth grade students enjoyed the nice weather with an impromptu spelling bee.
Mrs. Bowman's class recently worked on their own aquariums using 2 liter bottles and fish, snails, elodea, duckweed and algea!
Thank you Shelton and Drew for helping our lower school save 2 baby birds on the play ground.
