The United Methodist Church of Summit

17 Kent Pl Blvd, Summit, NJ 07901

We will have games, hot chocolate stand, food, activities, photo ops, and memories to share!

We ask that you bring your favorite Christmas/Ugly Sweater and Join In on the Fun!

We have been invited by the Sarah Circle to a United Methodist Women gathering at Chatham United Methodist Church on Tuesday, December 7, at 10 am. The meeting will be in the Asbury Room and will include a social time, devotions and Christmas music led by Angela Notari. Please contact Laurie Hagerich if you plan on attending.

The season of Advent is a time of preparing our hearts for the joy of Christmas and the coming of the Christ Child. We hope you will help decorate our church in this season of miracles. If you can donate to the Christmas Flower Fund in honor or memory of a loved one, please complete the form in the pews and return it with your donation to the church office. Names of donors and their loved ones will be printed in the Christmas Eve bulletin.

Suggested donation: $20 minimum. The deadline is Sunday, December 19th.

It's that time of year again! Please donate to our Angel Tree to help brighten a family's Christmas. All gifts are due in to the church office by Wednesday, December 8th.

We are once again including the inmates of the Morris County Correctional Facility in our Christmas gift giving. We will be collecting the items below at the church. Thank you for your generosity!

Successful 1st Annual Homebound Hustle!

Family Promise of Morris County hosted its first annual Homebound Hustle 5K run and 1-mile walk! It was a beautiful morning that welcomed 150 runners and walkers to help raise funds for our mission of ending the crisis of homelessness and housing instability in our county. It was exciting to see friends and familiar faces

and to meet new supporters, too!

A big thank you to all the runners, walkers, volunteers and the following sponsors, who helped make our event such a success:

Greenberg Traurig

PBF Energy

Atlantic Health System

McCarter & English LLP

Gelman Gelman Wiskow & McCarthy LLC

Wawa Parsippany

Adult Small Group Book Study

Our final session will be held on Tuesday, November 30th at 10:30am in the Church library. We are reading Chapter 6.

Book choice: The Difficult Words of Jesus by Dr. Amy-Jill Levine. In The Difficult Words of Jesus, Amy-Jill Levine shows how these difficult teachings would have sounded to the people who first heard them, how have they been understood over time, and how we might interpret them in the context of the Gospel of love and reconciliation.

Sundays @ 4-5:30PM in the Fellowship Hall. We are in need of volunteers whose first language is English, who would be willing to be conversational partners with Drew students who are learning the language. Our hope is to deepen relationships in our community and learn from one another across culture and language. Students and volunteers are welcome. Any questions, contact Pastor Woo.

Acorn Academy will be conducting a book drive for those in need this holiday season. Drew University's, Connect for Kids, is collecting gently used books.

  • The Teacher Education department in collaboration with Connect with Kids is holding a book drive for children and teens. Bring gently used or new books to UMC to help Acorn build this year's holiday book tree! All books will be donated to children in need. Donations accepted until December 1.

Acorn Academy is hiring! When we say this is a great place to start, we’re not just talking about children preparing for elementary school. It’s also about our employees. When you join our staff, you’ll discover the joy of learning, as you grow and develop in your career, alongside the children in your care. As you inspire them to achieve, you’ll be inventing your future too.

-Competitive wages

-Health Insurance offered

-Supportive, working environment

New COVID-19 Developments

There has been a 30 percent increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations in New Jersey in the past two weeks. New Jersey’s Gov. Murphy said yesterday that he is “relatively hopeful” that restrictions will not have to reinstated, but he urged more people to get vaccinated in an effort to curb the upward trend. This afternoon, the CDC issued new guidelines, recommending that vaccinated people wear masks when indoors "in areas of substantial or high transmission." Vaccine resources, including the latest report from the CDC, can be found in the link below. At UMC Madison, we will continue to encourage but not mandate masks, unless COVID-19 trends in an alarming direction in the Morris County and nearby county areas. Please sanitize your hands, maintain social distance, and help keep one another safe.

There are emails pretending to be from Robb Shoaf and other members of our congregation asking for Amazon Gift Cards to be sent to a friend or relative. Please do not respond to these. If you're in doubt as to whether an email is real, please pick up the phone and call that person.

Please be aware that there are emails and texts from Pastor Kate going out to our members asking for money. Do not reply to these as we have not sent anything out. You can contact Lisa in the office at 973-377-1231 or [email protected] if you have any questions.
