What's Happening at UMC Madison 8/22/22

Sunday, August 28th is the 12th Sunday after Pentecost

Blessing of the Backpacks and Celebration of Kathleen Keane

10:00am - Family Worship Service

11:00 - Fellowship Hour

During Jesus’s ministry we find him preaching, teaching, caring for those in need, and participating in miraculous events. These miraculous events are reflections of God’s willingness to perform the extraordinary, but are we missing something? During the month of August, we will reread the powerful stories of Jesus’s miracles with water and see the ripple effect God was creating.

A warm welcome to Rev. Mark Schol and his wife, Meredith Hoxie Schol and their daughters Elise and Nora. If you didn't get to meet them on Sunday, please come out next week or sign up to meet Rev. Mark in one of our small group sessions.

Please mark your calendar for the next Church Council Meeting of UMC in Madison, which is scheduled for Tuesday evening, August 23, at 7:30 PM in the Church Library.

Join us this Sunday, August 28th to celebrate the ministry of Kathleen Keane and all she has meant to the families and children of The United Methodist Church in Madison. We will have an expanded coffee hour after the service.

Thanks to Jeanne Eisele for sharing pictures of Peter Karanja & Leah Wandera's wedding in Omaha, Nebraska. Jeanne was able to attend and said it was an amazing ceremony with lots of energy and fun at the reception. If you look closely at the wedding photo, you'll recognize some familiar faces. Many blessings to the happy couple!

Blessing of the Backpacks

On Sunday, August 28th we will be holding our annual Blessing of the Backpacks during our worship service. Students of all ages and teachers are invited to bring their backpacks to the altar for a special blessing. We are asking that you consider purchasing an additional backpack and/or school supplies to be donated to local children. We will also be collecting kid friendly snacks such as small shelf-stable milks, 100% juice, pudding, goldfish, granola bars and cereal packs.

NOTE: There is a Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday from August 27th - September 5th

Diaper Shortage! The day center is running critically low on diapers. We especially need newborn and sizes 1 & 2 for some new babies in our programs, in addition to larger sizes as well. If you would like to donate a package of diapers, please contact Nora Godown at
We are in need of new air conditioner units for families to keep cool this summer. A new window A/C unit provides much relief for an entire family and helps to prevent heat-related ailments. If you would like to donate a unit or funds for one, please contact Nora Godown at

Congratulations to Woo Lim Kwak and Ha Young Yang

on their engagement!
