I recently had the opportunity to spend time with a kindergartener. If you recall, these are the days of questions, curiosity, and discovery of connections. The PPMC believes that if we all find that inner-kindergartener, we can optimize our finite resources…in talent, time, and treasure.
Say whaaat…?
This past month, the PPMC brought in experts from the Actionable Intelligence of Social Policy to talk with state and local leaders about the impact of integrated data systems. The discussion focused on strengthening data-driven approaches to address pressing issues including homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, and workforce development. None of our most challenging societal problems can be solved by one organization. We need data from across the system to understand what interventions (programs, policies) are impacting change.
In a similar vein, the PPMC also shared initial findings with the City of Wichita and Sedgwick County on the economic impact of homelessness, as well as a new approach to understanding our housing needs. Driven by the question, “How do we use data better to inform public policy?,” the PPMC spent 2024 analyzing information gathered across public, nonprofit, and private sector stakeholders. We are excited to continue this dialogue with City and County leaders in the months ahead.
Both of these efforts required our partners to be curious and willing to discover new connections…or let go of previously held beliefs. By embracing the curiosity and openness of a kindergartener, we can uncover innovative solutions and foster collaboration across sectors. The PPMC is thrilled to present these opportunities to improve public services, enabling our partners in the field to optimize their resources and collaborate effectively. Let's continue to ask questions and explore new ideas -- just like a kindergartener.
