Let’s start with a shoutout to Dr. Nicole Roades on one month in office as the sixth president of Southern State Community College! We’re looking forward to seeing what Nicole has in store for the college as we learn to adapt and meet the challenges of our times. Welcome, Nicole!

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone in person for the all-college meeting and lunch Monday, August 15. The event will include an investiture ceremony for Dr. Roades, so don’t miss it!

Summer over already...

Well, maybe not quite, but fall semester will be here before we know it. With classes starting August 22, we’re sure many of you are beginning that final dash to prepare ahead of time. We can’t wait to see students on campus this fall!

Make plans now to attend opening week, beginning August 15, for a variety of fun activities and events — get more info at sscc.edu.

Learning with droids

A great highlight of the summer was Dr. Josh Montgomery’s coding and electronics class for students and STEM educators featuring R2-D2 simulator domes from “Star Wars.” Nearly 30 people participated in the class over two days at the end of July, and it was a real hit. Well done, Josh!
Engineering open house

The Engineering Program will hold an open house August 4 from 5-7 pm at the engineering lab on Central Campus. If you know of someone who may be interested in this program, send them! Email [email protected] for info.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about what the engineering program has to offer. Plus, attendees will receive a free gift!

Health & Wellness

Due especially to the Omicron BA.5 variant, Covid-19 is on the rise with levels up to medium or high in 75% of counties. We urge you to get vaccinated and take reasonable steps toward slowing transmission. Our communities are safest when we work together to protect everyone.

The CDC recommends Covid-19 primary series vaccines for everyone ages 6 months and older, and Covid-19 boosters for everyone ages 5 years and older, if eligible.

As the new Novavax vaccine is released, here’s the link to the FDA overview and safety release.

Whether remote or in person, as employees and students of SSCC, it is still required to report your COVID-19 positive tests and exposures. Report online by visiting our home page, www.sscc.edu, and click on the reporting button or contact Susan Morris, Covid-19 Coordinator by email [email protected] or phone (937) 509-7828.
