Rick MacLeish Memorial Community Centre Reopens Following Major Infrastructure Upgrades

The Township of Brock is pleased to announce the reopening of the Rick MacLeish Memorial Community Centre in Cannington following the completion of major renovations and infrastructure upgrades.

The project modernized key components of the arena's ice-making and refrigeration systems, including the installation of a new Low-E ceiling, compressor upgrades, a new adiabatic condenser, and improvements to the hot water and plumbing systems. These enhancements will improve efficiency, reliability, and sustainability while ensuring a high-quality ice surface for years to come.

Council and staff are excited to welcome skaters, hockey players, ringette players, figure skaters, and community members back for another season of recreation, competition, and community connection.

The Township of Brock Dog Park in Beaverton offers a safe, welcoming place for dogs to exercise, play, and socialize. Designed with areas to accommodate dogs of different sizes, the park also provides a comfortable and accessible gathering space for pet owners to connect with fellow residents.

This community-driven project reflects years of planning, public engagement, and investment in recreational amenities that enhance quality of life for residents and their dog companions. Brock Township is making voting easier than ever with 10 days of voting and 3 convenient ways to cast your ballot. The most convenient method is secure internet voting, where eligible electors use the unique PIN provided in their Voter Information Letter along with their birth date to vote online from any device. Telephone voting is also available using the same secure PIN and offers a simple, accessible option for those who prefer to vote by phone. For anyone who needs assistance or prefers a traditional experience, Voter Assistance Centres offer in‑person help and Ballot on Demand paper ballots throughout the voting period.

Voter Information Letters

A Voter Information Letter (VIL) is an official letter mailed to all electors on the Voters’ List containing important election information. Your VIL will be sent by mail during the last week of September and includes:

• Voting Instructions
• Unique PIN
• Information required to vote online or by telephone
• Voting Assistance Centre locations and hours of operation

Electors are reminded to:

• Keep their Voter Information Letter in a safe place until the Voting Period opens
• Follow the instructions provided in the letter
• Use the PIN included in the letter and birth date to vote online or by telephone

Deadline to apply for the Low-Income Seniors Property Tax Rebate is September 30, 2026



A $376 Property Tax Rebate is applied to your tax roll, for Taxpayers who meet ALL of the following eligibility requirements:

(1) must own and occupy the property as a principal residence

(2) is 65 years of age or older, and

(3) currently receives the Guaranteed Income Supplement “GIS”.

 (A copy of your GIS renewal award letter must accompany the application). 

Applications can be completed online or contact the Treasury Department to have an application mailed to you. Deadline for application is September 30^th of each year.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Flag Ceremony

The Township of Brock will be honoring this important day with a flag ceremony for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

This is an Important opportunity for our community to come together in the spirit of reflection, respect, and reconciliation. As we raise the lower the flag to half mast, we acknowledge the truths of our shared history and honour the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and Indigenous communities.

Please join Council September 30, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. for this flag ceremony at the Municipal Building in Cannington.

September is Hunger Action Month

September is National Hunger Action Month a time to give and help those in need. Hunger is an important issue that affects residents from across our region.

For the month of September, there will be numerous drop-off locations located throughout Brock, making it easy for residents and community groups to drop off non-perishable food items. 

Donations can be dropped off at;

• Municipal Administration Building, Cannington: Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
• Brock Libraries - Beaverton, Cannington and Sunderland
• Brock Arenas - Cannington and Beaverton
• Sunderland Fire Hall

You can also donate directly to Brock Community Food Bank and the Nourish and Develop Foundation.

On Saturday, September 19, Durham Region residents are invited to take part in the Durham Waste Curbside Giveaway Day by placing unwanted items (in good condition) at their curb marked as free for anyone to pick up between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Do It In Durham Entrepreneurship Week

It’s the 14th year for ‘Do It In Durham Entrepreneurship Week’. Durham Region’s celebration of entrepreneurship is held each November during Global Entrepreneurship Week, this year's running from November 16 to 20. This week is a collaboration of Durham’s business support, educational and networking organizations who have come together to encourage and support entrepreneurs, job creators and innovators who create economic growth in the Durham Region. Funding Opportunity for Rural Businesses

Up to $10,000 in funding could be available for rural businesses in Durham Region. The next intake is open August for the Business Development Stream of the Rural Ontario Development Program.

Eligible businesses with one to 20 employees could receive funding covering 35 per cent of project costs, up to a maximum of $10,000. Funding can support projects such as market development, enhancing cyber security, succession planning or accessibility improvements. Applications close October 1.View Eligibility
