Southern State Community College is Turning 50!

Founded in 1975, Southern State Community College has grown from a small institution

serving only a handful of students to a large community hub that educates hundreds of

people every year.

Marking half a century of dedication to higher education, community service, and student

success, Southern State remains true to its mission to provide affordable, accessible,

high-quality education to the region.

Southern State strives to LEARN from its rich history and LIVE in the knowledge received

through daily application that will LEAD to a bright future for the next 50 years.

Is Your Email Signature Current?

Southern State has a new branded email signature for the 50th Anniversary. It is important for organizations, like SSCC, to have a branded email signature because it helps reinforce brand recognition, establishes professionalism, and creates a consistent visual identity across all communications sent by the College.

Campuses closed January 20

Martin Luther King Jr. Day marks the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. In observance, SSCC will be closed on Monday, January 20.

King was the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement, which protested racial discrimination in federal and state law. The campaign for a federal holiday in King's honor began soon after his assassination in 1968.

It was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in 2000.

Bits & Pieces

Have you updated your contact information in SSCC Alerts? Winter weather can be unpredictable, so please make sure you will receive notifications about campus delays and snow closures if need be. Notifications will no longer be provided on TV/radio stations for SSCC. With the automated alert service, it is the responsibility of all SSCC employees to provide a current phone number and/or email address for notification purposes.

Please remember if there is a weather-related closure, it is important to refrain from coming to campus. Everyone’s cooperation will enhance personal safety. It also assists our maintenance personnel immensely when they can clear walks, drives, and parking lots without obstacles.
