Southern State is committed to providing accessible, affordable, and high-quality education to people in southern Ohio.

November is full of opportunities to connect with others on campus as well as those in the communities we serve. Check out the events, activities, and important reminders below.

Daylight Saving Time ends November 3

The time change will happen at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 3. That is when 2 a.m. local time instantly becomes 1 a.m. Several devices, such as computers and cellphones, will reset themselves automatically, leaving you to change clocks on older, non-connected electronics. The biannual time change is also a good reminder to swap out the batteries in your home's smoke detectors.

Connect to College - Friday, November 8

Connect to College is taking place at Central Campus on Friday, November 8 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. We are planning to have over 250 students from various high schools on campus to learn about SSCC and the many things we offer.

Please contact Kaylynn Bell, kbell3@sscc.edu, to learn more about how you can help out at this event.

MILO Open House - November 21

On Thursday, November 21 from 3:30 - 5 p.m., the College will be hosting an open house in room 187 on the Central Campus to showcase the MILO (Multiple Interactive Learning Objectives) Range Theatre System. This technology offers cutting-edge law enforcement training to potential students interested in criminal justice as well as to current law enforcement officers.

Stop by to see the training simulator in action. Please share and encourage others you may know who are interested in law enforcement to attend. To learn more, click here.

FERPA Fact #4

Although there is no records retention policy in FERPA, each institution must have a records retention policy that meets the standards provided by the U.S. Department of Education.

SSCC has adopted the retention policy as outlined in the Manual for Records Retention for Public Colleges and Universities in Ohio. The records retention manual should be referenced when determining the retention of educational records held within your responsibility or authority as a school official.

Bits & Pieces

Don't forget to update your contact information in SSCC Alerts. With the weather changing, you will want to make sure you receive notifications about campus delays and snow closures. Notifications will be distributed via our web page, social media accounts, and the Southern State Alert System. Announcements will not be made via television or radio. Please remember to refrain from coming to campus for weather-related closures. Everyone’s cooperation will enhance personal safety. It also assists our maintenance personnel immensely when they can clear walks, drives, and parking lots without obstacles.
